Mother's Day weekend.

John and I went up to his cottage in central Wisconsin this weekend. We left work early Friday afternoon and got to Wautoma around 7pm.  We went to The Silvercryst dinner club for all you can eat fish and chips (now with all you can eat broasted chicken).  It was delicious.

We started off with Manhattans before moving on to baked fish and broasted chicken.  So good.

Little Silver Lake was just as pretty as last time, albeit a lot less ice than 3 weeks ago...

The water was ice cold, but it is still early in the season.

On Saturday, John tried to clean up a bit but it was too wet to really rake up the pine needles and debris in the yard.

The yard was looking a little rough since there were winter storms through mid-April

John blows all the pine needs off the roof.

Little Silver Lake is quite pretty, even if it was just 40 degrees out for almost the middle of May.

For Saturday night, we grilled.  The local butcher, Otto, never does us wrong.  We got some heavy duty pork chops that we seasoned pretty well, along with some small red potatoes that we grilled as well.  I seasoned some green beans with bacon bits, celery salt, olive oil and pepper.  I also marinated some Shitake mushrooms in sea salt, olive oil, garlic and pepper, and then we grilled those as well.  A good dinner, for sure.

On Sunday, we picked up a dozen steaks and some brats from Otto the butcher (hey, I tell you, his stuff is amazing), and then we drove out to Dixon, Illinois for Mother's Day.  John's sister, Sarah, was hosting the bbq.  We got there a little after 1:30pm.  I seasoned the steaks and John grilled. Everyone was pretty pleased, because seriously, you cannot go wrong with 14oz bone-in t-bones grilled to perfection. Which is medium rare, of course.

Aside from Sarah's family, her husband's brother and his son joined us.  John's mom (with a paramour!) and Aunt Jane was there too.  John's dad showed up just to say hi, although his current wife did not join him as she was involved in her own Mother's Day events.   It was a good time, to say the least.

Best of all, I got to play with Sarah's dog, Harper, for a bit.

Harper is just so adorable. She's a black lab/German Shepard mix and about five months old now.
She has a lot of energy and she's a little Devil too.
She reminds me a lot of Boomer when Boomer was young.

And Sarah's daugher, 'Livia, made some cupcake bouquets. They are adorable!

After the bbq with John's family we drove back to Chicago and did all the mundane things like laundry and cleaning to get ready for the new work week. Hope everyone has had a good Monday so far.
