To follow up on my post from just a
week ago, in light of the problems with some of the hardware in my leg I had another surgery early Monday morning.
My standard migraine-like headache following general anesthesia
So the surgery went really well. I was only in the O.R. for about 90 minutes. They were able to remove the two offending pins without further damaging the tendon or nerve. I'll have another follow-up in a few weeks, but the initial neuro-test after surgery showed I still have complete feeling in my foot and leg, which was a big concern. So now I'll just have to wait 3-6 months to see how much the pin removal helps. I already know it has done some good; when I fully stretch my toes up towards my head, I used to get the 'stabby mcstabby' pains immediately; those are already gone. Beyond that, we'll just have to see what physical therapy and time bring.
In other news, the day before surgery I had softball. Our games on Sunday were at 8am and 9am. I'm one of those people that secretly likes early games. I get up early, even on weekends, and by the time we're done it is only 11am and we've got the rest of the day to do other things.
Although we lost both games, I played pretty well. Of my three at bats, two of them were good solids hits to deep center-left and center-right fields. I did take a spill while running bases though. I was going to slide into second base, and realized I really shouldn't be doing that anymore. I tried to adjust and realized I was starting to fall over on my bad leg... so I just dove for the base. I landed on my right side and flipped upside down. But... I did get my hand on the base! I looked up at the second baseman and asked "Was I even close to beating the ball?" He laughed and said, "Nope! Not even close!" Ha. Oh well.
After our games we had drinks and brunch at our sponsor, Crew Sports Bar and Grill.
Having fun at Crew post-softball.
After brunch John and I went home. We cleaned up a bit, hopped on our bikes, and headed right back out to the fields to watch some of our other friends play softball on their new team, Balls Deep. Yeah, I love the name too! Heheh.
Patrick throwing to second.
