Well well, it's Thursday morning - I have to go and give a 2 hour lecture on "Bakhtin & The Carnivalesque" in an hour, then I go home and nervously double-check everything before heading to the airport for the contest.
I wrote a little
blog about it yesterday for those who are interested.
I am nervous. I am not naturally competitive, and am so often prey to nagging self-doubt. And there is a lot of work. I arrive at 9 pm, and have to be in a radio studio at 11pm for an interview - 11pm = 1 am for my body clock at the moment. Then Friday evening we meet the judges, do the first interview, then head over to The Laird to meet the locals, be charming and charismatic. This is 40% of the final vote. Saturday starts at 10am, with rehearsals and training going through to 4:30 pm - a little rest, then the Big Event kickcs off at 6. This is going to be a tiring weekend.
But overall it should be fun. I think. I hope...
