My grandmother's first marriage was annulled. We've never talked about who my dad's genetic father was. It's taboo for a number of reasons. I assumed he was the son of Polish immigrants living in Chicago like my grandmother and like the late Edward Bednarz (who married my grandmother and adopted my dad).
