I cooked Thanksgiving dinner again this year. Roast Turkey with all the trimmings. That was fun. having a feast was fun.
It was less fun to spend a week cleaning the house, although it is nice to not have dust on everything and have it all clean at the same time. My sister in law & her husband came to eat with us. He left the next morning, she stayed all weekend which get to be a strain. I was glad she was here, but equally glad that she left Sunday afternoon.
Because of Thanksgiving specials we ended up replacing our cell phones this weekend as well. Our contract was up, and the kid's phone will be lucky if it still works later this week when her new one comes in the mail. It was a hassle having to deal with it on this busy weekend with a house guest but worth it.
The kid got a new LG Droid* for no cost and the wife & I got folding Blackberries for $100 for the pair. Saved a bunch, and we now will have smart phones. I assume I'll get into it. I didn't think texting was all that useful when we got the last phones/contract but over the last two years I ended up depending on it. It is the best way to communicate with a teenager. She never answers the phone unless it is one of her friends. She answers texts most of the time.
I'll have a further report when I have had a smart phone for a few days.

* Droid means it uses the Android operating system. The latest coolest thing, an open source phone OS backed by Google. The kid started out wanting a Blackberry but changed her mind in the last week or two as we looked into new phones. It is like an iPhone, only brand X. It has a black rubbery feeling case and a glass screen and you touch the screen to operate everything. Telephones now have Operating Systems; this must be the future.
