I had the weirdest dream last night...
I was with the resistance on Cardassia. No idea who we were resisting and I only knew my comrades as disembodied voices. We were trying to meet our contact at a dormitory. Conditions were terrible outside. There were huge snow drifts everywhere, it was snowing heavily, and at least 4 feet of new snow had fallen.
We were outside this dorm looking for a sign in the window, an innocuous sign like a college student would put in a window to be ironic. I couldn't read it because it was in Cardassian. We saw the sign, my friends could read it, and I noticed that each room had an air conditioner sticking out under the window, just like on Earth, which I thought strange, but I suspected form follows function and it must get hot in summer.
We found a door to get in, but it only led to a beauty parlor or barber shop that was not occupied. The door giving access to the rest of the building was locked and needed a key on both sides. Darn Cardassians, overkill security on everything.
We went back out and found another entrance. A huge tunnel or drain that led under the building. It had a huge grate over it but it must have been to keep out creatures much larger than ourselves. It was in a big square concrete lined hole that was about 30 feet (10M) deep. Luckily it was full of deep soft snow. We jumped in one by one. The snow broke our falls with a swump sound, and I ended up in snow up to my neck when I stopped. I was right in front of the huge grating made of thick white bars, and the round tunnel it covered must have been 15 feet (5M) tall.
Then the alarm clock went off. #!&*%#@@!*!
I really wanted to know what happened next. I hate it when cool dreams end without resolution.
I wonder where that came from? I never associated snow with Cardassia. I have no great longing to be a Cardassian or to have anything to do with them. (well OK, Garrak is interesting, but he wasn't in it.) I don't even know if the resistance was Cardassian, I never saw a face.
