Putting Shame in Your Game.

Just a quick digression before we get into the review. I was reading a rumor on the internet that they might be making HD DVDs of Star Trek at some point. Or Blu Ray. One of those ones where they can put like a million times more information on the disc than a regular DVD ( Read more... )

Harry being distracted by the image of a dog appearing in the stormclouds overhead
I believe he saw a dog sitting in the bleachers, not an image of a dog in the clouds, though the people making the films disagree with me on this.

I'm rather sure Harry Potter werewolves walk on four feet and look almost like regular wolves, which is why you need to know how to tell them apart. The film people disagree with me on this too.

Upon further review, the dog was on the top row, visible against the sky, but not in it, so that's how I screwed that up. Crap.

Some good observations, Mike. Clearly critical thinking is not a class taught at Hogwarts.

I also agree that it's pretty crappy that with all this new DVD format stuff that they won't put more episodes on disks. But the more disks that can be sold (idividually, anyway) the more money there is to be made.

At least the new CGI looks good. http://aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=24360

I can understand that, but in this case the move to HD/BluRay means literally recreating half of the show, and the time and resources that'll take will ultimately mean the discs will cost even more than they would otherwise. And if these images shown on your link are any indication, I'm not impressed by the trade-off.

Not that it matters a whole lot to me how the finished product ends up. No matter what happens, a new version of Star Trek on DVD only means that the value of the existing sets will go way down, and I can just snap up those. Still, it's the principle of the thing that confuses me.

Superman Returns was a very pretty movie, but it wasn't $250 million prettier than Serenity. Whatever proportion of that money that went into script and actors should be budgeted for the sequel, plus maybe a few extra dollars for Bryan Singer to hand-erase the ropes holding Superman up. That'll do me just fine for a special effects budget.

I never got the big deal over shinier, prettier quality, probably because I usually can't tell the difference. So this all seems really pointless.

I think the broom was a birthday present from Hagrid (about Harry's first, since his aunt and uncle suck) so that's why he's likely to be whiny about it breaking.

I suppose it's an apt gift for a wizard, but even so getting a broom for your birthday isn't much of a step up from getting used tissues for Christmas.

Think about it this way. Brooms = quick, easy transportation, like a skateboard. So Harry got a skateboard. With which he thrashes and gnarls on a skateboarding team that competes in the Xtreme games and gets all sort of endorsement deals. And he's the lead skater.

Dude, did I just create an AU?
