Happy Birth Day Kittens.

Zaio had her kittens this morning! I woke up to James poking me, and Zaio with contractions. She wanted to have them under the covers between us, but its much too messy. We tried to put a blanket under her, but then she insisted on being in her basket. So we gave in, but when she was having her first kitten ever, the tail was poking out, but it wouldn't come out. One foot and a tail were all that could be pushed out. We decided we had to help, and dragged her out of the basket without her wanting to (against her will?) and I held her as James waited until she pushed once more and gently used a damp rag to assist the kitten. The knee was bent and caught so Zaio Yowled as it came through, and Yowled again as she pushed the rest out. The kitten moved and we knew it was going to be okay. Zaio did her mom work and cleaned it up until it was fluffy, and by that time she was having her second. We helped a little with that one cause it was coming out feet first too, but Zaio was much less panicked this time and only yelped a little. The third one came out head first and was still packed in its gooey cover and Zaio didn't make any noise at all. What a brave mom she is. All three are brown, and one has a white foot and white patchy eyes. She's been resting with them all day in her basket.

We are currently doing laundry. It needed to be done. Ew. Baby birthing is not a very pretty process. I'm glad she did it on the weekend so we have a couple days with her before we have to spend all day at work. And Tianna will be home on Monday and Tuesday to keep a close eye on Simon and the kittens. So far Simon seems really scared, but a little bit too interested. I put the basket in the closet with food and water so Mom can eat without going too far. Lets hope Simon has sense not to interfere for a while. Maybe when they get older he will have some playmates. And maybe Zaio and him will even get along eventually now that she's not pregnant. What an exciting place our house will be for a while!

I'm so proud of my Zaio-cat.
