Pro Dai Review

So after putting up the pictures, I thought it would be fair to do a total recap of the whole drama. I really loved the whole setting they put up at the start and it had so much potential.

I am not one who dwells on the past, we are after all humans, we make mistakes, some we regret more than others, some will haunt us all our lives. I believe that the past is the past, you can just learn from it, move on and try to avoid making that same mistake. Carpe diem, any body? I don't really mean it in the extreme kind of way (Dead Poets Society ring a bell, that could be a whole other review, maybe some other time)

So although the drama started really well, it sort of lost a bit of steam in the middle part, particularly when we see Kenzo can do no right when it comes to confessing his love to Rei. Rei in the later part I think is adjusting to Tada and attempts to being all sensible and probably accepting that she won't do all the silly things she does when with the gang.

At the end, I'm glad that Kenzo realised that it is not the past but the here and now that needs to be changed. Sometimes there are things you just cannot change but it is you who can change. You who can adapt and grow and make things better for yourself. In the end, I think both Rei and Kenzo realised this, that you owe it to yourself if you want something to change before you have a long list of regrets. But that sort of ending seems really serious since they exchanged vows and all this in a church . Probably because I thought it was going to be a romantic comedy.

I have to say that the song is beautiful. I've always been a fan of Southern All Stars and to hear Kuwata Keisuke's voice at that beautiful ending theme seems to add up to the fairy tale premise of the series. So, with a fairy and all in the story, that's why I'm surprised the ending was a bit too abrupt like that. Oh by the way we get to see Yamapi running a lot. I think in nearly all the episodes.

I think this is the first time I saw Yamashita Tomohisa affectionately known as Yamapi to his friends and fans, as a romantic lead. Of course I've seen him before in Lunch no Jou as that skinny brother when he was younger, that angry prideful youth in Dragon Zakura and that really eccentric Akira in Nobuta wa produce. Oh yeah, that sweet guy Ken-ken who courted a girl while honoring his friend in Stand up! He fared well with certain parts especially when Kenzo was part of the gang, more the comedy side and he did make me feel that oh that poor dear lost his girl kind of thing, but there was something vaguely missing that made it all seem a bit on the weaker side. Still I hope to see him grow as an actor and uses his strengths to further his potential. Ganbatte!!

Nagasawa Masami, of course, seen her before, as Naomi in Dragon Zakura and lots of movies. In the beginning, she didn't really have much to do except be the girl that the hero realises too late that it's her all along but she did it in with an inflection of a girlish smile in earlier episodes though I can barely understand her after the middle episodes. I read that many Yamapi fans disliked her, way too harsh for poor Masami just for kissing Yamapi like the script wanted her too. Still that last episode gave her the potential to show a bit of her emotional depth, it was amazing as it made me feel like i was seeing things through her eyes and how she accepted truly how she really felt and wanted.

Yuta Hiraoka and Nana Eikura were cute and nicely casted. The guy playing Tsuru did a pretty good job. I'm sure his character was always the one more different than the other 4 in the gang. I really liked to see the chemistry of the friends although they didn't focus so much on the relations among the 5. I mean we know Rei and Kenzo are best friends. Rei probably met Eri who became her best girlfriend, likewise Kenzo met Mikio and Tsuru, er.. I'm digressing again. But the chemistry between Rei and Ken seemed a bit  ...er lost., sometimes it was on, sometimes not. I guess repressing love from your best friend really takes a toll on you.

Before I forget, I absolutely loved the fairy! Kakkoi with that top hat!! I heard he was really famous when he was younger, may check out his other works.

Overall, I really enjoyed this drama and stood by with torrent searching every Monday when this drama aired, which is something I very rarely do. This probably tells you that i liked it. Usually, I wait for reviews and subs and download it and watch it all in one go. Maybe I was in the mood to watch a romantic comedy series, these are rare nowadays.
