http://wwwz.fujitv.co.jp/propose/index2.html I had deja vu when watching the first episode. A case of where have I seen the scenario where Yoshida Rei, the prospective bride prepares herself, albeit naively, for the biggest and possibly grandest event of her life. We can see from the beginning that the writers and director had given great detail from the lacy curtains of the glass doors and the voiceover that you can open the door of miracles. The voice over also stated that some do marry the person they love second best. So from the start we already know that the poor guy is after all second best.
While in another part of the town, an alarm rings and we see a Iwase Ken hastily getting ready and running for fear of being late to the wedding and this man is of course not the groom. He is the childhood friend of the bride.
A wedding takes place for Yoshida Rei and Tada Tetsuya as Iwase Ken watches on as he watches the girl he loves weds another man.
As the group of guests watch a slideshow of the bride and her life on screen made by her other 2 best friends, Eri and Mikio, waves of nostalgia and regret sweeps over Ken as he questions himself on how he let Rei go and worse still, never told her his feelings. As Ken contemplates what a total loser he is for all the could've beens, Magically a man appears claiming to be a fairy (while the others freeze :-D) offering him a chance to back in time to change the outcome of his love life. Despite his initial disbelief, Ken takes on the offer and returns to the past, some time before the actual photo taking occurs of the photo on the slide show.
This scenario actually occurs through most of the episodes where Ken returns to the past about the time the pictures were taken. Ken manages to thwart a bit of the pictures but not are satisfactorily to his advantage. Some hits and some misses. So pics of the before and after are as follows....

Can you get married if you reach the baseball championship!?
Ken returns to the time when they had lost in their baseball game where Rei acted as the manager for the team. He acts on impulse knowing the result to run with all his might to the home base but the team still ended up losing. Later when asked by Rei, he tells her he ran despite the odds because of the promise he made to take her to Koushien and he wanted to try and keep that promise. Rei is surprised to hear this and teases him that he could still remember that promise but I guess his words and intention reached her.

Can you get married if you get the coffee milk?
I really liked this episode as you can see Rei being all typical girly and natural on handling her first love although the way she orchestrated and hinted to Ken on his birthday present was (I will admit) a bit long-winded for a guy of Ken’s immature self at that time to fathom. Still, it’s sweet and I can feel that both characters were touched by each other’s actions. Had to laugh at the running joke of the coffee milk!!

Can you get married if you get the seat beside her?
Ken and Rei’s first meeting with Tada-Sensei who basically is a boring teacher as what he teaches does not reach his students. Ken is aghast as he realises that he had inadverdently matchmaked Rei and Tada. I liked when Ken remembered the first time he met Rei and realised why Rei calls him Kenzo. Also the scene when Ken asks to change his seat as he can’t see the board from his new seat.

Can you get married if you give her the 2nd button?
It's the last day of school as students are either asking or giving out their second button of their school uniform (according to Rei it’s because it’s closest to the heart) Ken ends up trying to retrieve his button which he gave some random girl who had a fetish for all those buttons. It was cute that Rei told Ken that if no one wants his button, she will or else it’s pretty sad for him. Later when she realizes that Ken’s button was gone, I sorta felt for her as well. Ken and his friend organize a graduation ceremony of sorts for Rei and Eri for their contributions with the baseball team and he throws in that his baseball uniform which Rei had washed was more a symbol of his high school years from all he went through. And Rei ended up with the second button of Ken’s uniform. So schweet…

Those who put off until tomorrow are idiots
It's 2002 and Japan is hosting the World Cup. Rei's grandfather visits her and hangs out and bonds with the gang, Tada included. Jiji reveals that Rei's first kiss was with him, much to Rei's embarrasment. This causes Ken to wonder who gave Rei her first kiss. Jiji who stayed with Ken had recognised Ken's feelings for Rei and advices Ken to pursue it as only fools put off until tomorrow. Ken takes Rei to send Jiji off as he recalls that this will be the last time she sees Jiji. Jiji is happy and sort of initiates Ken into the family saying Ken will do nicely. Ken and Rei bicker as they go shopping where Rei tells him that Ken was her first kiss albeit accidentally during a three legged race in school. Ken is aghast as he can't remember it at all. Seizing his chance or willpower, Ken gives Rei a real kiss. Earning him a double slap on his cheek but despite the slap, Rei doesn't seem to be too mad.

What have you achieved as you leave your teens?
This episode showcases the missing each other scenes, i.e where Rei misses her chance to meet Ken and vice versa. It is the eve of Rei's birthday but Tada has asked Rei to enter a competition where the deadline falls on the same day. Ken encourages Rei to enter although he wants to spend Rei's birthday with her. Rei is pondering of a past incidence where she wrote of her feelings to Ken but never gave him the letter. Ken is busy trying to earn some extra money to buy Rei a nice present despite coming down with a cold. Rei decides that before she turns twenty, she must know Ken's heart. After hearing from Mikio that Ken is sick, she arrives at his place only to hear a message on the phone that he is late for a group date. Ken is stalking the post office as he calculates that Rei will post her entry at the post office. So close yet so far.

When will love and fireworks come?
The gang are busy cleaning up and moving stuff for Tada and having a good round of water ballon fight amongst them. Ken tries to get the chance to confess to Rei but is foiled at every turn. However he manages to tell Tsuru to pursue his feelings toward Eri. Tada incidentally manages to confess to Rei through a game the gang plays. In the future, Ken is surprised to see that Tsuru and Eri are going out. He is even more surprised that Mikio guesses that Ken went back to the past.

Tears on New Years Eve
This episode is famous for Ken's belief that DKNY stands for Don't Knock New York. Rei jokes that if wins the lottery, she would buy DKnockNY bag. Rei tells Ken that she is dating Tada and confesses that she used to like Ken in the past but know she'd like to try a relationship with Tada. Ken is disappointed and starts to act up and declines to celebrate the New Years ritual the gang have at the beach. Ken decides that he should stop having feelings for Rei in the past so he will not go through the heartache in the present. He later realises that his feelings for Rei were greater than the feelings of heartache and he still wants to be part of her life as he tries to win her a Dknock NY bag. The gang at the beach realises that what's most important is not the place but to celebrate New Years together as they return to celebrate with Ken. Rei is surprised to see Ken's gift but happily models it off.

The bet at the last moment
Ken returns to the day Tada proposes to Rei. He is determined to tell her how he feels but being Ken has the most awful luck in the world. On a happier note, Eri agrees to go out with Tsuru despite him not drinking enough milk to grow taller. Ken only manages to meet Rei as she is heading for the restaurant to meet Tada. Rei tells her that it might be good to get married as she wants to get to know Tada better, Ken tells her off for rushing things to fast which frustrates Rei. As Rei leaves, Ken hugs her and asks her to stay with him and marry him. Rei goes !@##@$ and asks him why. why now? Rei tells him that he never understood her, never understood anything. Ken loses his tongue and watches as Rei walks away from him. That was the last time Rei called him by her nickname for him 'Kenzo'.
Timeslip 10
The Last Hallelujah chance
With Mikio's help, Ken gets to go back to the past one more time, weeks before the wedding where wedding preparations were abuzz. The gang go shopping for household items for Rei's new home but manages to have fun as well. Ken finds some time alone where Rei admits that she admired Ken's attitude to never give up until he gets what he wants. The guys later go to Rei's house to film wedding wishes from Rei's parents and Ken is reminded of his friendship with Rei through the years. He recalls that he had promised to take responsibility for Rei all her life when he was younger. A promise he had made but had not pursued. Later at the celebration party for Tada where the guys double up as waiters, Ken sees the scar which he had caused on Rei's elbow and takes action as he grabs Rei and takes her with him for a run. The scene is more beautiful than how i described it. :D
Timeslip 11
A Confession to open Door of Miracles
Ken takes Rei to the school where they first met and the two spend a warm time reminiscing the past in the school and at the playground where Rei got the scar on her arm. Ken asks Rei whether she had any regrets in her life and Rei replies that evrything that happened to her, bad or good has helped her make her the person she is, and Ken is as much as that past and she is glad to have known him. Ken feels small as he realises that he had so many regrets but Rei embraces them as she moves forward in life. They return to the party where Ken snaps a picture of himself to return to the present. He is surprised to find himself at the time before he made his speech. The yousei appears stating that he had finally understood that you can change a little of the past but the most important is to change the present to change the future. The yousei looks proud at Ken’s growth and wishes him well.
Ken gives out his speech similar to the first speech he had given but this time he was honest about his feelings and finally told Rei that he loved her and love her still but wishes her every happiness or he won’t forgive her. Rei tears up a bit and their friends rally a bit around Ken but Ken leaves to find solace in the church. The slideshow begins and Rei watching it realises and sees a different Ken who is always doing little acts of kindness towards her, she wallows with the realisation that maybe it was her that did not reach out. Tada notices that Rei is crying and not because of some dust in her eyes either. He makes a bet with her to let her solve the problem that she could not solve during her 20th birthday. Rei runs out to seek Ken but Ken has just left in a cab towards no destination. It is Rei who is now finding herself in church as the yousei approaches her. The yousei tells her a story of a man who returns to the past repeatedly to fix his past before he learns that it is the present and himself that needs to be change. He tells Rei that after all it is not too late to change the present to open the door of miracles. Rei thinks and gathers up her skirts as she opens the church door toward the light.
Ken is helping to the push the cab he was in as it breaks down when he hears a familiar voice calling out the name he had missed hearing. 'Kenzo', a breathless voice called out to him like music to his ears.
Note: LJ acted up whilst I was typing up the rest of the summaries. AAggh, it took me a while as well. So maybe I'll update later when i am free. In the meantime just the pictures
