There have been many wonderful recaps on Episode 7, and watching it, I just can’t stop smiling silly and feeling gleeful of things to come as we see reversal of roles and awakenings in our OTP.
I really liked to see the return of Kyu Won, released from her slave contract duties, as she retrieves the necklace Shin threw on the field and returns to him. Her words to him, signalling her determination to move forward.
I am going to do what you told me.
From now on, whomever you like nor
How much you're hurting because of her, I won't care.
You, I don't like you anymore...
With this I end my duties as a slave.
I have to admire Kyu Won, she speaks her mind and doesn’t cover her feelings as she tries to unburden herself and maybe him. I would probably never ever said what she had nor acknowledge it whatever feelings I could possibly have to anyone at that age.
Lee Shin who was dismissive when the Wallflowers asked him about Kyu Won became reflective when he heard that she was looking for the necklace as he had asked and she had gotten ill due to her troubles. That was to him a kind gesture he was not expecting and it bothered him. Her easy declaration to stop liking him and yet mentioning his father was also something he did not expect. This I sense was when he saw the real her, and not the annoying slave he could bully and was intrigued by her motivations that he called out her name but interestingly enough he stood up. Was he trying to stop her or go near her? Kyu Won finds herself amused
You calling my name, it's the first time
Fate for our OTP was not to be thwarted as they have aligned to give our OTP further proximity in the form of collaboration for the 100 years musical show ending music which will be a fusion of both modern and traditional music.
Seok Hyun, Musical Director from Broadway plans to hold an audition for the female lead role and challenges Kyu Won to try out which after discussion with her father, she accepts.
Shin just recovering from heartbreak feels empathy towards Kyu Won as he offers her a way out but Kyu Won plays it down and assures him that she is fine working with him despite losing her location bearings towards the library. The pair does some research as Kyu Won piles him with relevant books to help him understand and feel the music to marry the modern and traditional. Shin ponders whether she is exerting revenge.
The two bands practise together and Kyu Won despite her best intentions finds herself looking at him whilst playing only to have him return her glance. Kyu Won smiles sadly to herself and concentrates on her instrument but Shin continues to steal glances at her, probably unbeknownst to him whether he wants to look at her or wants to catch her looking at him. However his eyes speak volumes to me. And he does not look like one who is merely window shopping…
After practise, as the two bands propose eating together, Kyu Won declines because of her grandfather and Shin leaves abruptly to the disappointment of the Wallflowers. However, they manage to persuade Kyu Won to join them. As they walk out from campus, Shin is annoyed to see Kyu Won with them when she had said she wouldn’t. Without much thought, Shin quickens his pace to join them.
Shin does not hide that he is not there to have fun and watches Kyu Won and her diet like a hawk. Who wants to bet that he chose the seat so he could sit opposite Kyu Won. The BBQ dinner then expands to karaoke and after her initial excitement, Kyu Won finds herself in the stalls where she is joined by Shin who soothes her back. I’d die of embarrassment too if I were in her place. He is considerate and hands her tissue, but he betrays his thoughts as he tells her:
You don't have to pretend that you are fine in front of me.
Kyu Won and Lee Shin are walking together and conversing as Shin asks her about the audition. Kyu Won tells him that she felt more vibrant since participating in the musical as the path for gayageum had been laid for her since she was a child.
And since I chose the Gayageum, I lived without knowing anything else.
Honestly, I do get a little tired of it sometimes
If I don't do it now, I won't have this chance again.
Shin finding different facets of Kyu Won, she is not just a girl who stalks her crush but she also longs to find a dream to be her own. Haven't we all find ourselves in the same situation as Kyu Won, doing something and finding our joy for it has lessened as we question ourselves.
As the bus approaches, Kyu Won bids him goodbye and thanks him for his thoughtfulness today. Shin barely hesitates and finds himself riding the bus, once in a while.
They sit in the same row, different seats and try to steal glances at the other without being too obvious. This is just sweeeet.
Trouble brews at home for Kyu Won as her grandfather discovers her musical notes and songs. He throws out the notes and forbids her to join the musical.
The day of the musical, her grandfather confiscated her phone and put a lock across her door to thwart her from going. Hearing of her predicament, both Seok Hyun and Shin race to her house to plead for her case to the unyielding grandfather. Seok Hyun has to return to college and Shin is left to his own devices using his sister as an accomplice to rescue Kyu Won. He orders her to ride on his bike and hold him tight as he cycles away to college in time for the audition.
Reaching the audition hall, Kyu Won thanks him but pauses to let him know what is in her heart.
I don't think that I will be able to forget easily, but I will try my best.
She sings the following song from her heart and possibly the proximity and kindness Shin had shown her by bringing her to the audition made her tears fall as she sings.
Shin is also transfixed as he listens to her song. Her song echoing the words she said earlier.
When the results were announced, Hee Joo won the part. I couldn’t tell who was more disappointed; Shin or Kyu Won but the cheers for Kyu Won from her friends warmed her heart as Shin watches from afar. I wonder if he too wants to cheer her but can't.
Seok Hyun teases her of losing his bet for wagering she would get the part as he ruffles her hair. I find it cute that he feels so familiar with her like a sister.
Out of the blue, Lee Shin approaches them and addresses Kyu Won directly, telling her to go home?
Lee Gyoo Won.
Shouldn't you go home?
Seok Hyun is amused by this territorial behaviour.
Are you Lee Gyoo Won's manager?
Lee Shin stresses on her grandfather waiting and worried.
Kyu Woon feels apologetic and begs leave from the director, when all of a sudden Shin offers her a ride
I'll give you a ride.
She hesitates, uncomfortable and insists she’s fine and she'll go alone.
He scorns
How are you going to go alone? I'll go and...
Kyu Won cuts him off. Damn! I so want to know what Shin will do when they meet grandpa. I will --- What would've Shin say, I shall take responsibility for her or Music is her life? Really what would he say…
Kyu Won declines him.
Seok Hyun steps in and offers to explain to grandpa since he is the director of the musical
Kyu Won sighs gratefully and gazes away from Shin as he follows the director. Only Shin is not pleased as he watches them leave. I swear I saw his body turn. I’m betting he’s so going to follow after them. To what? Stop her from going? To pick a fight? Shin is such an adorable mystery?
