mastering, recording, and other fine business

Matthew Donovan (previously of Morningstar) and I finally got in touch again. It has been a few months due to his constant traveling, but it looks as if I'll finally be wrapping up his project. It's been mixed and premastered for 3 months now, waiting only to be properly cut and burned. Thank God and Tobin for this 120G HD. Anyhow, I look forward to getting that project finished and done with.

The recording studio has sat idle for too long. I recently purchased
to advance our studios business status. It's an amazing book. I'm excited to see what happens in the next few months. I decided to start pursuing the things I love to do, and that is one of them. Within a week after making a firm decision on it, I already had 3 bands express interest in recording with us. I didn't even tell anyone about it! In any case, once I get a few more things in order for it, we will be ready to start letting people know about us by more than just "word of mouth" methods. We know plenty of bands within our own circle alone. Plus, you can't beat doing something you love.

While initially giving thought to ways to ramp up business, I found out about forensic audio. Though I don't care to much for hearing people die while I work, everything else about it is fascinating. Mastering is what I love most about our studio. Mastering audio for large amounts of money, not to mention my fascination with forensics, law, and court cases, sounds like an incredible amount of fun to me. My lawyer hasn't been helpful with contacts and in-roads, but a friend of ours recently mentioned that they know someone they want me to connect with who has a full-fledge and overflowing business in forensic audio. I hadn't mentioned it to them at all.

So, I think about something, and all the doors start opening. This reminds me of when I began looking for my first job. My parents were mad by my not knocking down every door I could. I remember them expressly saying, "They're not just going to knock on your door and hand you a job!" Well,no one exactly knocked on my door, but it was only a couple of days after they started saying this that I started getting calls from old friends of the family asking if I needed a job. I got 3 jobs that way. Now it's happening again. I attribute it all to God. I don't know how or why exactly, but whenever this starts happening I get a deep feeling that I'm being taken care of by my Beautiful Divine.

I'm brushing up on my Golden Ears. I highly recommend it to anyone doing audio editing, mixing, and recording out there. Golden Ears Audio Training is used by the top educational institutions for audio mastering... it does for frequency, EQ, and decibals, what Perfect Pitch does for tone.
