Title: I want you to come home.
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Romance
Pairing: Eunhyuk / Donghae
Words: 1.217
Summary: Separation often makes the heart grow fonder; but it can also tear you apart.
Notes: This wasn't really meant to be spectacular in ways of writing or anything. It was just a small thing I wanted to write with the Suju M crew being in China and everything. Oh well, I guess I'll get better some day. x)
”When is he supposed to call you?”
“Uh, in about fifteen minutes. I’ll just go wait for the call in my room.”
Eunhyuk smiled as he always did at his leader who gave him a suspicious look but didn’t question it any further. He made his way to his room and plopped onto his bed, head on his pillow as he stared into the ceiling. Donghae was supposed to call him tonight. It’s been a while since he talked to him personally, usually the calls from China were to Leeteuk or to the managers who carried on the messages, but this time Donghae had sent a message about calling him.
Why he was feeling so nervous, Eunhyuk didn’t understand. He was no stranger, but a part of him probably feared that his Hae had changed somehow by traveling alone overseas. Never mind the fact that the other members were with him. Eunhyuk couldn’t stop from feeling as if he was there all alone.
Ten minutes passed.
The nervous feeling in his stomach had grown and his hand nearly shook as he reached for his cell phone on the night stand. He rolled onto his side and brushed his thumb over the display, anticipating Donghae’s cell phone number lighting up any minute.
Another ten minutes passed.
He was probably just caught up with a show or something. He’d experienced it before; shows getting delayed and ending later than usual. It was alright. He would call any minute.
Thirty minutes later and still no call from Donghae.
A feeling of disappointment slithered into Eunhyuk’s heart. It had been so long since he’d talked to him, but he still didn’t call. A show couldn’t be delayed this much. The young dancer bit down on his lip, clutching the phone in his hand.
‘Why isn’t he calling?’
An hour later and the door to the room opened, Leeteuk’s face poking in through the crack. “Yah, did he call you yet?” Eunhyuk only shook his head silently from his position on the bed and rolled onto his side, the phone lazily resting in his open palm. Leeteuk sensed the disappointment and quietly let the younger one be, closing the door after him.
Eunhyuk appreciated that his leader knew him well enough by now. Something he thought Donghae did as well.
“...idaero kkeutimyhun gihwega uhbdamyuhn-“
“-Hello?”
“Eunhyuk!”
In an instant, Eunhyuk’s heart sank into his stomach. He wasn’t sure if he was relieved or upset that Donghae finally called him.
“Donghae yah…”
“Yaaah, sorry about only calling you now. We only just got back from recording a show, it’s crazy hot over here!”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, Kyuhyun had a heatstroke the other day so we were really worried about him, but he’s fine now. He went to the hospital to get checked and such so he’s back with us again.”
He sounded cheerful.
“That’s good. Make sure you make him drink a lot of water.”
“Oh yeah, Hankyung hyung has almost been forcing liquid down his throat.”
There was a small pause and silence, either one not knowing where to go from there.
“It’s nice to hear from you again. Directly, I mean.” Eunhyuk was the first to break the silence.
“Mm, well since international calls are pretty expensive, we aren’t allowed to make too many at a time.”
“Is it fun over there?”
“Yeah, but I miss the dorm a lot. I know Wookie and Kyuhyun do too.”
“…”
“Hyukkie?”
“I’m here. Just thinking.”
“About what?”
“Stuff.”
“…don’t be an idiot. Obviously I wanna know what you’re thinking about.”
“Well, moron, I can’t just pick out one of my thoughts randomly.”
“Of course you can. I do it all the time.”
“Yeah well, that’s you.”
“You wouldn’t love me if I wasn’t now would you?”
“Probably not.”
Another pause and a sigh from Eunhyuk’s end of the phone as he rolled onto his other side, the sound of his cell phone accessories clacking against the cover.
“What’s wrong? I heard you sigh.”
“Nothing.”
“Idiot.”
‘ - Yeah well, I miss you damn it.’
“W…when are you coming home?”
“…”
“…”
“Hyukkie… you know I can’t answer that.”
“I know… but… when are you coming back? It’s just not the same without you.”
“…I don’t know.”
“…I see.”
“Don’t be mad.”
“I’m not.”
“Yes you are. I can hear it in your voice.”
“I’m not.”
Donghae sighed.
“I love you Hyukkie. You know that right?”
“Yeah… I know.”
“Do you love me too?”
“Mn hmm.”
“Say it.”
“Say what?”
“Say, ‘I love you’.”
“Why?”
“Because I miss hearing it…”
“…”
“…”
“I can’t tonight.”
“Why not?”
“Because…”
He was being childish, but he couldn’t help it. He was still really disappointed that Donghae hadn’t kept his promise. Why did it always have to be on his time?
“Hyukjae. I miss you. I miss you so much it hurts, y’know?”
But when Donghae said things like these, it was as if everything else in the world drifted away.
“I miss you too Hae… I miss you so badly. I want you to come home.”
“…I know. I want to.”
“Then come home! China isn’t a good place for you anyway; Korea is your home Hae… I’m here waiting for you!”
“I know.” Donghae smiled on the other end, despite knowing it wouldn’t be visible to his better half. “I’ll come back soon Hyukkie, I promise.”
“Promise, promise?”
“Promise, promise, promise.”
“Okay.”
“I gotta go… it’s time to sleep here. I’ll call you soon again okay?”
“…Okay.”
“…Goodnight.”
“Night.”
The click of a button being pushed and the call was over. Eunhyuk kept lying in his bed for a while after, simply listening to the beeping sound of the hung up phone from the other end. He didn’t even notice the lone tear that slid down his cheek.
His phone beeped a few times before it rang, the phone connecting only a second later.
“Hello?”
“I love you…”
“…Hyukkie. What are yo-“
“I love you. I love you so much I wouldn’t be able to live without you anymore. It’s so hard Donghae. Not seeing your smiling face every day. Not listening to your beautiful voice and angering the hyungs with our games. God I miss you.”
“…I miss you too.”
“That’s all… I’m sorry for acting stupid before. I just didn’t want you to go to sleep with my idiocy on your mind.”
“Heh, you’re too good to me Hyukkie. What would I do without you?”
“I’m not sure myself.”
Donghae laughed, and a smile formed on Eunhyuk’s lips. Something that’d hadn’t happened in a long time now.
“Alright, I really have to go now. But, you want me to call tomorrow again?”
“Yeah, I really do.”
“Okay. I love you Hyukkie, so, so much.”
“I love you too Hae. Sleep well.”
And with that, the phone call ended yet again, but this time, Eunhyuk felt reassured. Donghae’s words had a way of making him feel better in a split second and it never failed. He would wait. He would wait until the ends of the earth for Donghae because he knew that the best thing that had ever happened to him was in China right now. But when he comes back, he would show him just how much he’d missed him.
