Countdown to Class

Aug 10, 2006 12:12

I just checked the course listing today, and there's the class, with my name listed as the instructor. So far, twelve students are signed up for the class out of a possible class size of thirty. I checked out the other courses, and it seems that twelve is a good draw for a 9:00 a.m. class.

dadandgirl, fmh said you couldn't get into the class. Try again if you're still interested, because there's no wait list.

Since there are only thirty allowed for the class, I will be able to have discussions on the primary resources, hopefully. I need to get some discussion questions together and find some supplemental reading material. I'm not sure I'll need the latter yet, but I want to identify some if I decide a particular area is just not very fleshed out. Of course, the earlier we go, the thinner the body of material.

Right now, I'm working on a lecture about the Tang dynasty (618 - 907 CE). So the list of finished lecture skeletons and finished lectures pending once over with additional sources are:

Pre-History (Neolithic to Shang "dynasty")
Classical Age (Zhou Dynasty to Warring States Period)
Confucianism
Taoism
Legalism
Imperial Unification - Qin Dynasty
Han Dynasty
Buddhism
Sui Dynasty
Women in Imperial China
Rise of Nomadic Empire - part I

Once I have finished the Tang dynasty, which I've pushed together with the Sui dynasty for one lecture, I need to go back and work on some of the earlier lectures to firm them up.

The one irritating thing? Somehow, half of my Qin Dynasty lecture went poof! So I get to destroy the house of Qin all over again.

I had more to say, but I don't feel like writing anymore. I'll plunge in again later.

work, history
