The background: I am reading four different books and getting excited about the connections made between them. These are the books:
Rapt, by Winifred Gallagher
The Art of Loving, by Erich Fromm
You Are Here, by Thich Nhat Hahn
Community, by Peter Block
Something I just learned from Rapt: The old English word that became happiness is “hap”-meaning good luck. What a happy accident. Perhaps we’ll meet again. What a crazy random happenstance! The concept of being happy began in relation to good luck. The book said it's better to FORGET that--presumably because it's sad to think that happiness is as uncontrollable as good luck. But I think it's awesome! I think it's fascinating. I fucking love language!
