I like my country at the moment. I even like politicians - well, some of them.
New Zealand legalized gay marriage today when our parliament voted in the Marriage Equality Bill. We had civil unions before that but this takes it a final extra step. The bill passed 77 to 44.

Apparently there's now a boom in the confectionery market for separate, mix 'n match figurines of brides and grooms - both sexes and all hair colours, so that cake-makers can pair them up as appropriate, and the marriage-planning companies that specialise in gay couples look set to make a killing.
