I worked Dayton down to the vet's office today. On the way there, we came across construction, and he handled it very well. We were walking up Johnson crossing Second. Johnson was to our left, and as we approached Second, Dayton slowed and carefully led me up to the curb. There was some sort of rubber matting or something which he walked very slowly on, and he paused to show me a hose that was running across the ground. He stepped down ahead of me to show me how steep the incline was to step down into the torn up road, and he walked very carefully across the street. He took me along the shoulder of Johnson, which was also torn up, until the sidewalk was clear again, at which point he took me up out of the street and back onto the sidewalk.
On the return trip, I found out why he had kept me in the street instead of crossing from curb to curb. As we approached Second from the other direction, he refused to work up to the curb. I reached out and found construction fencing. I decided to have Dayton take a right. I intended to walk up to the next corner and cross there and double back, but Dayton found a wooden bridge which had been set up for pedestrians. He took me across, turned left and found Johnson, turned right and continued our line of travel.
