That Hephaistion Survey

Jul 27, 2005 15:03

Well, the survey didn't (so it seems) close itself on July 1st, but I'm going to officially close it on July 31st, and consolidate the data that I have at that point. I'll then post the results in Megalexandros and hephaistionfans.

Again, thanks to all of you who took the survey. I have about 365 responses so far (although I rather doubt that's going to go up significantly in just four days). Again, this isn't a very scientific survey, but with that number, at least it does mean that 1 or 2 responses cannot skew the final results, and large percentages really do represent particular trends.

(Jeanne goes back to her mountain of work ... for "summer vacation," this hasn't been much of one.)

On a completely different note, (Begin Proud Teacher Moment) ... Congratulations go to Bryan Mayfield, who will receive his masters in history this August with an exceptionally good thesis exploring the rout in ancient hoplite battle, a heretofore somewhat overlooked topic in military history. Mr. Mayfield is also the recipient of two graduate student awards: the UNO Thesis Fellowship, and the Outstanding Graduation Student award for the UNO department of history. He's also successfully completed the Berkeley Intensive Summer Program in Greek, which is a killer program (as well as an excellent one). He was the only student with no previous Greek who didn't wash out. I'm very proud of his work and hope that whoever inherits him as a Ph.D. student appreciates what they've got. (g) Grad students like Bryan don't come along every day. :-) (/Proud Teacher Moment)
