Team Ian FTW
Y'all need to start watching "Huge" from ABCFamily. It's a show about fat kids, which focuses on fat teenage girls played by real fat actresses, not Gwyneth fucking Paltrow in a fat suit. I need someone else to talk to about Team Ian! (Lesley at Fatshionista is recapping the episodes. Watch Episode 1 and then go read her recap for an explanation of the Team Ian thing.)
I had major reservations about this show, and it frequently hits my embarrassment squick and/or my "overidentify with the characters like woah" button. Often at the same time. But for any frustrating moment there are half a dozen poignant or positive moments that make me grin or cheer or cry.
I never watched "My So-Called Life" but I have many friends who worshiped it. The head writer of "Huge" was a writer on that show. She co-created "Huge" with her daughter. And really, when was the last time you saw a young fat actress playing a young fat character who identifies herself as an angry feminist? ;)
Hulu has the episodes, and the ABCFam site supposedly has them as well. Also on iTunes. Episode 3 was tonight so it's easy to catch up!
