this is for you, sebs...
10 Minutes Ahead
I love being a commodity
Pandered down to the lowest common denominator
And sold for free
Discussing my face rather than the urgency
The unrelenting realization of what we should be
Human family?
Disconnected by history?
Or just by what we believe
And it’s been a good five hundred years in the West
Does it make you wonder that our success
Relies solely on those who are repressed
Because Nike knows best how to dress
But never how to address
The fact that human beings are used
And the profit system is based on abuse
But we don’t speak with the guillotine anymore
Or the sword
But with buildings that go up 194 floors
Which corporation do you love more?
This soil we need is owned by some company
Soon, we’ll all have to pay to breath
And pay to be and be taxed because we can see
Such a joke, sustainability
And what a privatised genocide
Where the sun never sets
Wait, where Uncle Sam knows best
We’ve been gunned down with the false truth since birth
That Baby Gap knows our worth
Do they know who they hurt?
Now we’re no better than slaves
On a corporate plantation, I can see graves
And tombstones with our names
The apparition of what will happen if don’t change
But what about those folks on the frontline?
Who set their time 10 minutes ahead?
And chant words we never thought could be said
I can still hear laughter through slaughter
The ageing hands of our foremothers and forefathers
Who fought so I could believe in me
Or make it look that way on International TV
What kind of world do we want our grandchildren to see?
But I cannot bother
To wonder what could be
Will someone come with me?
Out onto the streets?
And make right of all our pseudo-free?
