Funny sort of day.
I got up, went to work, came home...a bit early. It was so quiet in the unit that there were four nurses without assignments. I had a patient, so was prepared to stay and do my shift. For some reason I checked my mailslot and found a shift change agreement that I had totally forgotten about for tomorrow...I'd agreed weeks ago to do the shift, but for some reason the other nurse didn't put the paper work in until last week, so I had figured that she'd changed her mind about wanting the day off. Damn! I sure didn't feel like working 4 shifts this week. So when the charge nurse offered me the chance to take today off, I went for it. Was back home and snuggled back in my bed by 9 a.m. I slept for about 3 hours, got up, read the paper and drank my coffee, then decided to go on out to the farm, since it was a beautiful sunny day.
Sue was surprised to see me, but happy to have the help with the feeding and paddock cleaning. It was a nice, mellow afternoon. I was happier doing that than I would have been dealing with my somewhat crazy confused patient in ICU. A nice little break in the work week.
Unfortunately, I have to get up again tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. :(
Still, it was a good day.
