I'm extremely exhausted but extraordinarily excited, so of course I head to livejournal to write.
This summer has simply flown by; it seems like last week I finished up my second year at U of M and moved into an apartment off campus for the summer. Now I'm sitting in my bedroom back at home, with clothes and boxes and books covering every available surface. I moved back two days ago, giving me just enough time to unpack apartment stuff, repack dorm stuff, and assemble vacation-stuff. Tomorrow evening, the most amazing guy I know is joining me on an adventure to Boston, where we will spend a week relaxing, seeing the sights, and visiting my best friend. Joel and Mike are definitely two of the most important people in my life, and a week with the both of them is sure to be memorable.
As fantastic as this summer has been, I'll admit I'm quite looking forward to the upcoming semester/year. Though I've been in Ann Arbor all summer, it's going to be wonderful to see some people I've missed quite a bit. My courseload is going to be bit on the heavier side in the fall (Bio 305: Genetics, Psych 230: Intro Biopsych, Physics 125/127 Lab, German 450), though most of the classes look fascinating.
I have three jobs, and I'm excited about all of them. I'm a biomed peer advisor for the Michigan Research Community (MRC), so I'll have a small class to lead come Winter term, but in the fall I'll work with some students and help them find research projects join. I'll also be pretty heavily involved in the MRC as a general program, if things go as planned.
I'm also staying on my current project, and things are looking great as we get rolling. If all goes well, I hope I can present at another conference sometime this year. :-D I've really developed an interest in addiction research; though I'm focusing on alcoholism right now, and I could stay at this for quite some time, I would definitely be interested in looking at other drugs of abuse. Perhaps I'll be lucky enough one day to work with hallucinogens; thank you Johns Hopkins for your fascinating study on psilocybin. :)
Oooooh I'm a dork and I love it. Here's to wanting to subscribe to Psychopharmacology and Scientific American, eh?
Additionally, I'm picking up 10ish hours a week at another lab, completely different from the behavioral psychology work I have been doing for the past year. At this lab I'll be working on much more molecular-based work, such as running basic gels, southern/western blotting, PCRs, etc. I cannot wait!
Alrighty, I think exhaustion is overpowering excitement for the time being, so I shall write myself a list of things to do before leaving for the airport and then call it a night.
Life is good. :)
