Why are you doing this to my health show?!

Really enjoyed this episode overall, they caught me off guard exactly 3 times which, in the span of one hour is impressive (if a bit detrimental to my overall health lol). I’ll try to be as coherent as possible because the thoughts are swimming around like piranhas in a pond and there’s little I can do to contain them lol =|

{*} ELIJAH R.I.P YOU BAMF, I WILL MISS YOU LIKE YOU WOULDN’T BELIEVE!! =’( He was two of three shockers for me: the first time Alaric stabbed him I was taken  completely off guard!! I mean Andie’s asking her questions, Elijah’s playing the perfect gentleman and complying, Damon and John are glaring daggers at one another AND BAM!!! =O Didn’t expect it to come from Ric, which made it all the more awesome because it’s been a while since we’ve seen him put his vamp annihilating skills to good use.

{*} Knew John Gilbert was hoping to get rid of Damon by giving him the dagger + ash; but I thought that perhaps he counted on Damon making a reckless attempt at Elijah’s life and Elijah putting him down for it (after which he and Isobel would have come to some crafty conclusions on dealing with this whole debacle), definitely  didn’t call that “double death” clause that came with the dagger’s use. Oh John, you totally need that ring more than Alaric does at this point-although I am now worried to death for Alaric. So I’m guessing that was John’s plan to get Katherine out: have Damon do his dirty work.

{*) Because he was killed half-way through the episode, I was very sceptical of him being “dead-dead” and loo behold: there he was in all his coin/rock tossing glory. Elena certainly put her money where her mouth is and she grew in my eyes for it. I was so shocked my her move I didn’t stop to wonder how she got her hands on the dagger when it was supposed to be back in Mystic Falls with Damon before Damon showed up. I liked the irony of her being the one to finish him because it signified her actively ridding herself of the one element that guaranteed what little security (for the sake of her loved ones) she felt she could scavenge from the scenario. I think this is one of the greatest instances of agency that the writers have given Elena and they should pat themselves on the back for it.

That said, a big part of me doubts that we’ve seen the last of him because that “the dagger has to stay in his chest” catch is a little to susceptible to future tampering. Furthermore, won’t they need that same dagger when Klaus comes to town? Just sayin’

My most overused GIF in tribute to you and you BAMF self *sighs*

{*} I wasn’t all that surprised and/or phased by Stefan’s flashbacks, which should probably worry me a little more than it does lol =| I’ve been exposed to “Stefan is a ripper” spoilers since his Human Blood arc, and Damon more or less confirmed it for me during their road-trip conversation in “Rose” when he asked “What happened to that guy that used to rip people open?” (or something along those lines). However, I was a bit worried at first that they’d play up the clichéd “Stefan was evil and now he’s redeemed, while Damon was a right peach and now he’s a monster,” particularly in light of that scene in “Children of the Damned” (1x13) where Katherine killed two innocents so she could show Damon “how it’s done.”  BUT, the fact that they made it clear that Damon wasn’t entirely adverse to the killing/feeding, but rather the carelessness with which it was executed  through his “we have to be clever, like Katherine was” saved that scenario for me *wipes forehead*.

I did like Lexi’s words of wisdom about his rage and how it would consume him, because many of the negative things he does stem from varying degrees of rage; whether it be through him perceiving that he was generally wronged and/or betrayed (his snapping Jeremy’s neck in “The Return” and his behaviour after he found out Katherine wasn’t in the Tomb stand out for me).

{*} Speaking of Lexi, I loved seeing her again; but seeing what she did for Stefan and what she meant to him broke my heart for him even more because it made Damon having been the one who killed her all the more repugnant and just downright tragic. They really played up the “Stefan wanting to keep his brother at all costs” angle with those flashbacks, and the fact that Stefan has to steer clear of mourning and/or really thinking about Lexi because to do so would mean to lose his brother (because really, can you ever truly forgive someone for that?) made me feel for him even more. I did like that “you remember her?” that he threw in Damon’s face at the end though, and the fact that Damon even looked a little ashamed of himself (which, in the context of Lexi’s death, is a first) was a nice touch in the direction of his development without being too overbearing. Still though, the entire thing just made me feel for Stefan and the overall state of the brothers’ relationship with all its inconspicuous and tragic nuances…

{*} Damon and Alaric should have at least one awesome bromance scene every episode. Really, they should make it a rule. I loved Ric actually saying “I’m you FRIEND” out loud, and Damon trying to shrug it off, but we all know it meant the world to him-Gaaah I love those two!! <3 Btw, was it just me, or did anyone else find Alaric extra hot this episode?? IDK if it was the threatening John or killing Elijah but my oh my…

{*} Bonne/Jeremy are just a bundle of cute waiting to happen UNTIL JONAS BARGES THROUGH THE FLIPPING DOOR AND PULLS THE BIGGEST DOUCHEBAG MOVE OF THE CENTURY!!  I hate how powerless, both literally and figuratively, he made Bonnie (and Jeremy) feel.  I get that he’s worried about his children and I concur that what Bonnie did to Luka last week was a step in the wrong direction, but Bonnie and Jeremy were just as justified in what they did IMO and I’m waaay more invested in them than I am in Jonas and Luka so my sympathy goes to Bonnie =(

{*} Damon/Katherine snark makes the world go round. I was a slightly worried that they were softening Katherine up a little too much in the face of her fear (I mean, this is KATHERINE after all), and as much as I love Damon, I’m glad they didn’t take her “trump all” cunning away from her. It’s interesting how easily she can read him and predict his reactions and I wonder if it’s the same with Stefan, or if part of his appeal is that it’s never that easy with him for her?

^ THIS made my night (oh his face!), and I am now on the edge of my seat for next week’s episode-although it’s the last episode before a month long hiatus… uggh it feels as if we just got the show back and it’s gonna be gone again =(
