More.. Coco Goes Geek on The HobbitLausus writes: Conan O’Brien had a brief sketch on his Jan 11th episode showing some disappointment in the announcement that Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood are returning to their roles as Gandalf and Frodo. Pretty amusing stuff. The sketch starts at about 10:15 into the monologue at the top of the show which is free to watch at

RadioTimes Chats with Aidan TurnerRadioTimes recently chatting with Aidan Turner (Kili) about his show ‘Being Human’ and of course a bit about The Hobbit. The good bits are below, check out the
whole interview here.Do you worry about being typecast?
Nah, as I’m about to fly to New Zealand for The Hobbit [Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings prequel]. That’ll get me out of the typecasting pretty quickly. I’m to play Kili the dwarf, so it’s to be long beards and prosthetics from now on.
Does that mean you won’t be in the fourth series of Being Human?
I don’t really know yet. We’re shooting The Hobbit for a good year and a half - until midway through 2012 - but I think I get six weeks off, so we might work something out.
Aidan Turner is Ready for his Closeup..AlmostTORN Spy Merie sends along these images which purport to be Aidan Turner’s pre-production stills for The Hobbit. Taken for the prosthetics crew in New Zealand. Basically these are images used as reference points for the crew to use when making makeup for Aidan in the film. These help the crew and avoid keeping the actor in a makeup chair for hours and hours. Aidan Turner will be playing the dwarf Kili which we know from LOTR will require extensive makeup. Thanks Merie!
Sir Peter scouts southern locations for new movieSir Peter Jackson and his crew are on a Queenstown-based location scout of the South Island this week. Sir Peter’s assistant at Wingnut Films, Matt Dravitzki, yesterday said his boss was not available for interviews while he was in the South Island because the team were on a gruelling location scout. “Location scouting for The Hobbit is currently under way in both the North and South Islands.
“Locations will be chosen ahead of the commencement of principal photography in February.”
Mr Dravitzki said further details would be available once shooting started and it went without saying that New Zealand’s unique landscape would double for JRR Tolkien’s Middle Earth.

Trilogy Screening in LAThe historic Egyptian Theatre presents the Director’s Cut of all three Lord of the Rings films in a one-day screening. Director Peter Jackson’s trilogy, which won 17 total Academy Awards, tells the tale of Frodo Baggins, Gandalf the Wizard and their allies, as they attempt to destroy the mystical One Ring of Power.
More.. NZ News Talks Hobbit Extra Casting in DunedinThey were keen on non-speaking parts, and non-speaking they stayed yesterday. A long line of people stood tall but kept their lips zipped when approached by the Otago Daily Times outside a casting call for The Hobbit movie in Dunedin. About 100 people turned up at the Edgar Centre to convince talent scouts and the measuring tape they should be non-speaking scale doubles for actors in Sir Peter Jackson’s latest film. Each of them had to adhere to strict guidelines: they had to be aged 17-55, between 128cm and 158cm tall, or taller than 210cm, if male, and between 128cm and 153cm if female. Most of the applicants seemed to fit the bill but none who emerged from meeting the scouts could share their experience with the Otago Daily Times.
More.. Feel the Love: Hobbit may have date with ValentineShooting of Sir Peter Jackson’s Hobbit films will begin in Wellington next month and a possible start date is one that fans would love - St Valentine’s Day.
Wellywood insiders have told The Dominion Post February 14 is when cameras will start rolling on the two films. However, Sir Ian McKellen - who is reprising his Lord of the Rings role as Gandalf - said via his website: “I am happy to say I start filming in Wellington on February 21, 2011.” Film publicist Melissa Booth confirmed filming would start next month but said the exact date had yet to be set. The films’ stars would soon be arriving in Wellington to launch the production. “It will be for a significant number of the actors. I don’t have a date yet, but I am hoping it will be in a couple of weeks’ time.”

Pippin's Hair..Sorry I have searched the posts but can't find an answer. I know in The History of Middle Earth, Vol. IX, Sauron Defeated Pippin's hair is said to be "almost golden", but apparently Tolkien later omitted this. Am I to assume he had brown hair? If anyone can point my in the direction of where I could find the answer, I've looked in Unfinished Tales, LotR and The People's of Middle Earth.
Middle-earth Conspiracy Theories Just why did Morgoth turn against the other Valar?
I (think) I've made a great discovery!Well, I'm sure it's been "discovered" before.
I've been downloading a lot of books to my ipod because I've been doing a lot of house painting and sewing lately so, of course I downloaded the LOTR (can download for free through my library's website). I started listening to it last night and it's just great. All the other books I've listened to have been only one person reading the book with some okay inflection, but LOTR has a different person per character, footstep sounds, birds, fighting sounds. It's like listening to a radio show from back in the day. It's wonderful! Gimli sounds great! It's so gutteral and mean!
I'll have to find a link to it where it explains who voices them and when it was made. Right now I have to go to school. Yay. Oh, but okay, I don't know the correct pronunciation, and I'm sure JRR wrote it somewhere, but they say Le-GO-las instead of Le-go-LAS, and Sar-U-man with a long U sound. Wierd and is going to take some getting used to.
