Okay, as the other poor sods out there have found before me, the instructions LOOK GOOD but they don't work. The new blogger setup rates the first account as boss - you can sign in another account as a 'guest' or 'admin' and you can delete it if you want but the new 'author' can't delete the original author. The word 'remove' just aint there.
Tried this twice over and then went to the discussion group where my problem was outlined in detail - not enough swearing though.
