HELP. PLEASE.

I would like your (that's a collective "your") opinion on something. The list of grad schools that I want to apply to is really long, and since it costs like $70 an app. plus the cost of airfare to interview, I really can't afford to apply to so many. So.. tell me if you heard ANYTHING about this schools. Evaluate them on the GRAD school college (not undergrad - big difference), the program I'll be applying for, and any other information that you may have about the town where the school's at (like, "don't live in Boston, live in the suburbs unless you want to be mugged everytime you walk home"). Basically anything you might know about the school. All I have to go off of is what my prof's tell me and what the schools' websites tell me, so I'm looking for another opinion. And I know linguistics isn't most of your fortes, but even if you know a little something about to school, that would be helpful.

List, in order of my preference (well, some-what at least):

1. Northwestern, Evanston (Chicago); J.D./Ph.D. (doctorate in law and linguistics)
2. M.I.T., Cambridge; Ph.D. (theoretical linguistics)
3. Harvard, Cambridge; Ph.D. (theoretical linguistics)
4. Georgetown Univeristy, Washington D.C.; Ph.D. (theoretical linguistics)
5. University of Maryland, College Park; Ph.D. (theoretical or applied linguistics)
6. Penn State; Philadelphia; Ph.D. (psycholinguistics)
7. University of Indiana, Bloomington; Ph.D. (applied linguistics)
8. University of Chicago, Chicago; Ph.D. (theoretical linguistics)
