Junior Achievement Day today. Always a fun time, even if it's mostly the same stuff that we learned in Junior Achievement at that age (back in '93-'94! Ack, that was 10 years before these kids were even born!). Right down to the "Sweet 'O' Donuts" Assembly Line.
I was a bit disconnected today since Tuesday is my double-prep day and I was out of the room for an hour. The kids had a pretty good day overall, though! I love the people who come to my class from BNY Mellon to do JA. They are fabulous.
And after that, recess and Fitness Finders/PLC.
Went to another Teacher Law workshop after school today. This one was mostly DCF-issue centered. I don't know why they don't make this mandatory for all new teachers. It's terrifying, some of the case studies that come up. It was really good, though - I didn't even mind the fact that we sat there for 2 1/2 hours. When I realized that our presenter, an attorney from the union, had on a purple Mickey Mouse tie and used to defend cops, I figured we were in for a good lecture. Really good stuff.
And these workshops are always like reunions, too. I saw 3 of my former high school teachers, one of the wrestling coaches and a new face to the profession - one that I hadn't seen in about 15 years. A friend of mine from elementary school has now joined the ranks as an art teacher at the high school. His artwork was legendary in our class, and he ended up going to RISD, so there's no surprise there! You'll never meet a nicer person - it's amazing that he was never jaded by the amount of teasing he endured in grade school. I was one of the few people who was nice to him, and even at times I'm sorry to admit that I was swayed by the crowd. I never had a reason to dislike him, though, and it didn't last long.
Long story short, I am so, so glad to see that he's got a job and that he's doing well. :)
