Look Out for Number One

I took it upon myself to go to a non-required workshop on my rights and responsibilities with special education laws today.

I feel oddly empowered. Not that I don't have plenty of responsibilities to these students - of course I do, that's my job - but it's nice to know what I can and should expect and the appropriate courses of action that are taken.

These are things that we only scraped the surface of in my education classes that should be required for all education majors, not just the special educators. But then again, I don't think they were expecting that inclusion would be the general rule.

I'm just proud of myself for being proactive, and felt like celebrating it here since there hasn't been much to be happy for at school lately. Maybe this means we're on an upswing! After all, one student who generally has trouble focusing was totally on point today, so much so that I wrote a nice note for him to take home and show his mom. He was prouder of himself than I'd pretty much ever seen a kid be. :)
