There's not a place for her in Jack's life anymore.
(Was there a place for her in his life before, really? Before the baby, before the wedding, before all his time was spent jumping back and forth between two girlfriends -- that's gross, right? It's gross -- before everything changed, things had already *changed* between her and Jack.)
She thinks, maybe, she was... not a stand-in for a wife, because that's not what they were. They were never... that. But she was his office wife, maybe? Is that a thing? Yeah, it is. Point is, she was the one he talked to. She's the one he relied on.
He doesn't need her for that now.
(But he didn't *really* need her, did he? Or else things wouldn't have changed before Avery and Nancy and no judgmental face, like she was in the wrong. *She* was the bad guy for thinking he should commit to one lady instead of feigning devotion to two.)
And, honestly, she's not sure she misses it. Misses him. Because she can't remember the last time *she* was listened to. She can't remember the last time he didn't run away when she had a problem. She can't remember the last time he looked at her in that... way he used to look at her. That way she never took note of until it vanished. Like he... not like he loved her. If there's anything Jack hasn't done, it's love her. But he liked her.
She misses the time when he acted like he cared about her. But that time, his attention is far enough in the past that she's stopped needing it.
He's not someone she needs.
There's not a place for Jack in her life anymore. But, in her case, she doesn't have anyone to replace him.
