I laugh because my friend J* who has studied classical music gets really annoyed when he listens to today’s RnB/hip hop/rap/urban music. Beautiful (and at one point ground-breaking) genres bastardized and reduced to ‘infantile’ (his word) hooks, arrangements and melodies almost always lifted from some James Brown classic. Not to mention video hos jiggling their butts and rappers with trousers pulled down to their knees to ensure the song becomes a top 40 hit.
Ciara’s song Goodies sounds so much like a Missy Elliot track. And she sounds like a cross between Janet Jackson and Britney Spears (ugh!). No points for originality really. Although…must give her credit for looking so hawt in that video. But that's the point. It's not about the song anymore but the packaging. Yes, I'm not saying anything new. However, I have to be honest and say that I get some perverse pleasure from doing mock video ho dance moves with my friend mimm and I quoted the song here because the last two lines are quite good you have to admit:
‘If you’re looking for the goodies keep on looking ‘cause they stay in the jar.’ Hehe. I think that’s clever. I can hear the conversation now:
Boy: C'mon, give me some goodies.
Girl: Nope. They're staying in the jar.
Hehehe.
Speaking of music, J* asked me today to name my favourite 15 tracks of all time. That’s very difficult. But I decided to list twenty songs that I keep going back to. Good grief, I just discovered I may just have the official bed-wetter’s compilation CD. :p
