wherein i rail against stupid dog owners and the lack of humanity in the world

yesterday we were walking penelope and some lady's dog got loose from her backyard and charged at my dog, barking and snarling the whole way. as i have a good authoritative voice for using on mis-behaving dogs i yelled out "HEY!" a few times to distract the dog and make sure it knew there was an alpha present that would kick it's fucking ass if need be (i'm the alpha, btw). it worked and the dog sort of paced around penelope warily until it's owner finally appeared, calling it's name ('nikki mcclure', i swear!).

at this point the dog trotted back to it's owner and we started walking away. it was then that nat decided to yell back "you should keep your dog gated!" and all hell broke loose. this time the lady charged at us, yelling "what??! what??!! what did you say??!! aren't you over-reacting a little??!" to which he said "no!". she then decided to laugh and point out that her "tiny dog" was harmless and we were ridiculous. for the record, her dog may have been small but she was easily twice the size of penelope and last time i checked, dogs of ALL sizes are capable of being aggressive and attacking other people/dogs. like it's being small means it's teeth are made of rubber or something!

i was so furious. i can't even remember the entire exchange but at one point she very snottily asked if we even lived in the neighborhood and our immediate answer of "YES we do actually" obviously caught her off-guard as she responded with a stuttered "OH. well, g-g-good!". she continued to call us stupid and i pointed out to her that not controlling your dog is illegal and i have called animal services on people like her before. because i have. well that tossed it, she began laughing and getting haughty and was pacing around her yard calling us names. i started walking away at that point and she said something that set me off cos i yelled back "i'm so sorry that we actually take responsibility for OUR dog- excuse us!" and she just kept laughing incredulously.

so then nat yelled "fuck you lady!!" and "sorry kid, your mom's a bitch!" to her son who was sitting on their porch the whole time. that pissed me off too. so then i had to lecture him about how that threw our entire point to her out the window and just brought us down to her level. i was so mad that he did that because obviously this lady had issues with us appearing young and less than upper middle class. i could immediately tell that had we been older and dressed conservatively she would have apologized and the case would have been closed. she obviously took issue with some young "punk" in a sweatshirt and baseball cap telling her to take care of her dog. she probably thought we were teenagers from alberta or something the way she asked if we were even from "her" neighborhood. as a matter of fact, i not only live in "her" neighborhood, i grew up in "her" neighborhood and so did nat.

and of course now that part of me that always feels inferior really wants to go back there dressed in a blazer and slacks, paystubs and pedigree handy to flaunt in her face. whatever, she probably voted for george bush which means that no amount of reasoning would ever make a dent with her. it just hurts me to know that people like her not only get away with acting like that but actually EXIST. i have been encountering people like her A LOT lately and i just can't believe people get through life like that. to my mind people like that do not deserve to live, they are everything that's wrong with this world.

SIGH.
