let me tell you about my landlord- the guy is a complete stoner. he bought the house we rent a few months before we moved in a said it was a complete dump, the place had been trashed. so he moved in and fixed it up and rented it to us as he lives in a super nice, gigantic house a few miles away with his son and girlfriend.
the day we moved in, we arrive to find that all of his stuff is still there and the place hasn't been cleaned. i make some phone calls and over he comes with a truck and starts clearing his stuff out. he gets maybe half of it and dissapears. i call him again and he says 'oh just put everything else on the front porch and i'll come get it'. so i did, boxing up all the toiletries in the medicine cabinet and spices from the kitchen. he left pictures on the walls and dressers and rugs. the list goes on!
i put everything on the porch, to keep his bird feeders and wind chimes company. everything sat there for a week and a half before he stopped by to check on some wiring he never hooked up (another phone call) and remembered it all. he came by three days later to collect it.
we've now lived in the house for a year and three months and have dealt with a leaky back porch, non-working lights and outlets, ant infestations, a stinky refridgerator, no heat (for five days in january!!), and biggest on my list of annoyances- an oven that barely functions.
when we moved in the thing didn't work AT ALL. after a MONTH of waiting he finally got around to fixing the burners on the stove. then i found that my oven takes over an hour to heat up to 320 F. and that's as high as it goes, ever. loving to bake and broil, this did not a happy me make. i called the landlord and he promised to swing by... and never showed. i finally gave up as i have bigger fish to fry.
so imagine how happy i was when nat agreed to my purchasing THE GRIDDLER!
it's a panini press, a grill and a griddle all in one. such genius! i can now grill lamb and steak and chicken like no one's business and did i mention that it makes panini??! it's what i've been eating almost non-stop since our purchase.
we've also made pancakes, soy bacon and omelettes. my favorite though is to make a small omelette and put it on sourdough with pesto, tomato slices and a nice fontina cheese and put it on the panini press until the cheese melts everything together and the bread toasts. MMMMMMM!
