The Vermillion Tree

Rare earth
incarnated in the element of wood
set like a seal upon neighbors green and gold.
Topmost branches black to the sky.
Understudies fiercely lush.
Red of reds.
For a time as brief as the midges of May
This light will be seen -
maple sugar's blaze of glory.
