[ACTION]

[Having arrived in one of the minority of empty houses to be found, Horatio Caine was spared the indignity of walking around shirtless. He's already got his suit and shows and all that classy stuff on before he's ready to set out into town. Moreover, he also has gone out of his way to skim this book he found. It seems almost like a ( Read more... )

[Kratos is by his favorite place. The wall. He's leaning there and looking at nothing in particular, more thinking about things, when Horatio comes into view. He hasn't seen him before, but he certainly seems collected for a New Feather. So, he'll be watching what he does for a few minutes.]

[We can assume this is after the Welcome Center as to assume that we won't run into the same problem he did with Minato there. Also, there's no need for a man to ask for directions twice.

And more importantly, how do you know it's a new feather with his sexy suit?

But all these points aside, H knows what it is like to be watched. He also knows, as a rule, people lurking around tend to be bad news. Still, even if he hasn't found his weapon yet, it's better to get to the root of the problem.

And thus, he turns to address Kratos-]

Can I help you?

[New Feathers give off a certain vibe, you know? That lost, just got here vibe. Kratos can pick up suspicion in his tone, so he pushes off of the wall. Sure, he has a sword, but he's not making a move for it. He's learned that people tend to think he's reaching for it when he's just resting his hand on it.]

No. You simply seem to be handling this situation calmly. That's more than I can say for many of the new arrivals here.

[And now that his position as shifted H can see that - is that seriously a sword that this man is wearing out in public? Clearly there are all sorts here. H pauses there before removing his sunglasses for dramatic effect:]

Honored to be such an oddity. [And that last part is almost sarcastic with a very keen little glance in the direction of said sword]

[The man's got wit, Kratos can say that much. With a "heh" and a small smirk, he looks in the direction of the Welcome Center.]

I take it you were already told of this place.

I have... [That first part was serious, and while the next part is serious as well, it's said less slowly and carefully than the "I have" was:] and I can't say I'm pleased with what I've been hearing.

I have not met one person who was otherwise.

I would imagine so. [There's not sarcasm in that so much as... sardonic-ness? It's a sense of morbid humor at the situation]

Tell me... are such open displays of weapons common here?

[He glances down at his sword before he rests a hand on the hilt, as per habit. Huh, he's never been asked that kind of question before.]

You'll find that many of the inhabitants do so, yes. It is common both in my world and in this one.

[There is a keen disapproval in this. He figures the man isn't going to attack him so he doesn't do much more than tense a little - he's not so jumpy, but even so...]

I see. [...] It's dangerous here, then?

It can be. Around half of the experiments have proven to be dangerous, as if crafted by twisted minds. Moreover, abductions are fairly violent. There is also a darker side to the populace... I find it necessary to keep my weapon by my side, as I have for most of my life.

How tragic that your life should be so rife with violence. [While sincere in meaning, there is a slight hard edge to that. Only a criminal would think like that, or at least someone who is not entirely blameless]

Could you direct me to where I would find a weapon?

Hmph. [Let's not bring up that monsters litter his world too, for now. Instead, he'll nod to the second question.]

Yes. My son and his assistant own a weaponry here. Yours may have found its way there.

[He'll start to lead the way.] Simply ask for Lloyd Irving.

Your son. [...This guy doesn't look a day older than thirty, tops. What the hell is a (most likely) teenager doing running a weaponry? What's more, why does a small town like this have a weaponry? There's a lot of questions to be addressed there, and Caine decides to start small-]

And what is your name?

[Oh, wait 'til you see him. He'll turn his head to glance back at him (through the mop of bangs)]

I am Kratos. And yourself?

MY name... is Lieutenant Horatio Caine.
