In which Lee and Ian return Ronan to Miah and Cali.

Ian was practically vibrating with suppressed glee when he and Lee exited the SO’s office. After hearing what had happened to Lee after she’d disappeared from Medical thanks to that Sue’s spell (and wow, Ian had never thought he’d hear the words “A god of chance helped me to get where I needed to be” from anyone), the SO had welcomed her back and reinstated Ian and Lee’s partnership, provided that Lee schedule an appointment with FicPsych and have Doctor Freedenburg evaluate her for mission-readiness.
After leaving the SO’s office, they headed back to the RC to pick up Ronan, who was waiting patiently with the other minis. Colonel Shepard and Ronan were staring in fascination at all the shiny weapons they’d collected from Camilla Sheppard’s quarters, and Ian had to move quickly to disarm Shepard’s and O’Neil, as they were using the two sai to try and poke at Mr. Wesley. Said mini-Aragog looked relieved when the bladed weapons were gathered up and shut safely away in a locked cupboard.
“Come on, Ronan. We’re going to take you back home,” Lee said, beckoning to the dreadlocked mini-Wraith. Ronan nodded, waving goodbye to Colonel Shepard and Shepard’s, with whom he’d become friends with after a few tense moments. It had reminded the two agents strongly of the relationship between the two canons the minis were based on, which made sense. After all, the minis were near-reflections of their canon counterparts, so a good relationship between the two mini-Wraiths made sense.
Once Ronan had been collected, Ian and Lee went back out into the labyrinthine halls of HQ, purposefully not thinking about going to Miah and Cali’s RC, but instead talking about what had happened with Orion during the five months HQ-time that Lee had been gone. Ian told Lee all about the badfic recruit’s refusal to kill Sues, and both agreed that Bad Slash, which was where Orion had transferred to, was probably a far better fit for him than the DMS. As it was, it took them a good half hour to reach The Lair, and once they’d arrived, Ian knocked briskly on the door, glancing over at Lee with an expectant grin on his face.
Lee still hadn’t changed out of her Atlantis uniform, and Ian had the sneaking suspicion that Lee would be at least keeping the jacket to wear on missions whenever she could. He didn’t mind; he was just glad to have his partner back.
The door was flung open by Cali. He had a huge grin on his face--right up until he saw Ronan standing behind Lee and Ian.
“You brought him back? I thought someone had finally picked him up.” Lee’s presence finally registered with him. “Hey, wait! Lee? Is that really you?”
Lee grinned.
“In the flesh,” she replied. “I just got back, thanks to Ian. It’s good to be back home. How’ve you and Miah been?”
“We just got back from a mission to Merlin. The fic was a mess, but we had the chance to pick up a lot of food from the hospital’s storage room. It was kind of nice to come back from finishing the mission and not have chocolate smeared everywhere by a certain dreadlocked menace.” He didn’t mention the ice cream his favorite had spilled.
Lee looked down at Ronan, who was standing behind Ian; the mini was looking unrepentant for said messes. She smiled, shaking her head.
“Well, we’re not sure what to do with him,” Ian said, picking up the conversation thread. “We’ve already got four new minis: two mini-Wraiths and two mini-Unas. That has to have been the first time I’ve seen a mini-Unas. I wasn’t expecting to find them in a Stargate Atlantis mission. Then again, I wasn’t expecting to find Lee there, either.”
Miah appeared behind Cali. “Who’s--Ronan!” She knelt down and held out her arms. The mini ran to her and hugged her neck tightly. She produced a chocolate pudding cup from one of her pockets, and the mini took it, while giving Cali an evil smirk.
A teeny voice piped up from behind Miah, “No bacon, and he gets the first chocolate? Yer in for it now! Ow! That’s it! I’m breaking that spear in two!” A mini-Unas streaked past followed by an irate mini-McGee. Miah stopped the NCIS mini by offering a pudding cup. She quickly handed the mini-Abby, the mini-generic marine, and mini-Unas puddings also.
“Did I hear you say that you found more mini-Wraith and mini-Unas? And, Lee! Welcome back!”
“Yes, we did,” Lee said, nodding in affirmation. “The mini-Unas are O’Neil and Ayana, while the mini-Wraiths are Colonel Shepard and Shepard’s. And thanks. As I told Cali, it’s good to be back home. So, question: when did you guys discover the mini-Unas? They weren’t here when I left.”
Miah answered after she stood up again. “We went on a joint DAVD mission with Agents Mal into an SG-1 fic a few months ago. They kept a mini-Unas named Hauk’Taur, and this one is named Hauk’Tauri. Aren’t they the cutest little monsters you ever saw?”
“They are pretty adorable,” Lee said. “I don’t know if we’re going to be keeping either O’Neil or Ayana, though.” She glanced at Ian, who shrugged noncommittally. He didn’t mind adding to their little family of pets; Mr. Wesley would probably like someone to talk to that wasn’t a cat when Ian and Lee were off on missions.
“Anyways, we’re probably going to be putting an announcement on the chat forum so they can find good homes,” Lee continued on. “I don’t think we’d be able to permanently take care of that many new minis right now.”
“We have a pretty full crowd here, but if you can’t find them homes, they can stay with us. Cali’s clean minis still outnumber my messy ones three to two.”
“They don’t need any help! Look at this! He’s been home for two minutes and there are already handprints everywhere!” Cali flopped into the console chair resignedly.
Having come in from the hallway, Ian and Lee found places to sit; Ian sat on a spare chair, while Lee took up position on one of the sturdy boxes of food scattered about the room.
“So, what’re you guys going to trade for with all of this food?” Ian asked, gesturing at all the boxes. “I’m relatively sure you’d be able to get almost anything you ask for.”
Cali answered with, “I thought we might give a case or two of it to DoSAT, so they will get rid of the bugs in our Disguise Generator. They still haven’t really forgiven us for Castor gutting the thing. Beyond that? We hadn’t really planned that far in advance.”
“Well, good luck with that,” Lee said, idly patting the top of the box she was sitting on. “Either way, I’m sure you two will make out like bandits.”
There was a sudden beeping from the console. It wasn’t the ear-piercing BEEP! that announced an incoming mission, but rather the insistent bip bip bip of a newly-arrived message. Out of reflex, Lee reached up to activate the radio that she still wore in her ear, but stopped herself just in time.
Cali was the closest to the console so he slapped the acceptance button. “It’s from the SO. Oh man! How could he already know what you did, Miah?”
Agent Keaton, you are late for your evaluation in FicPsych. Missions do not complete themselves, you know. And Agent Still, of course I already know. You and Agent Arthur will be receiving an appropriate punishment mission in due course.
Miah groaned. “How? How? It’s not like it was damaging!” She paused, and an evil grin spread across her face. “It felt soooo good to smack Arthur up side the head later, though.’
Lee got to her feet, Ian following her lead.
“Well, this is our cue to get going,” Ian said. “It’s been good talking with you guys. Good luck with that punishment mission.”
With that, the two DMS agents left the Lair, Lee not particularly wanting to go to FicPsych but knowing that if she wanted to get back to work, she had to go. It was a small price to pay, after all, and definitely one she could afford.
