Having lost Buckwheat this summer, and sitting with him in his final hours, I certainly understand. I've also told Slink all about him and how special he was to me -- just so that he (Slink) will understand what it means to be family and how seriously I took his adoption.

Oh darling... I'm so sorry. It's alwyas hard to lose a pet, but one that's been with you through a huge portion of your LIFE is hardest. Good thing is, though, that you were there for her, and you have a huge amount of memories saved up because she was with you that long.
My Beanie is 18 (currently on vacation at my mother's house, sans crazy kitten), and I know choices like this are down the road. If it makes you feel any better, you did the humane thing and the loving thing.
