Van Helsing... or not

So I went to the cinema yesterday. All my friends wanted to see Van Helsing, and I agreed to go too because is not as if I could go by myslef to watch Troya, which I’m sure would have been infinitely more interesting than VH.

Don’t get me wrong, the movie is not bad nor boring and the special effects are as great as in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but I didn’t enjoyed it as much as I’ve done with other similar movies. (And now there will be spoilers for if anyone hasn’t seen it yet). There were parts that were totally foretellable, as the brother coming back as a werewolf, or him becoming one too at the end (Underground, anyone?) But the thing that annoyed me most I guess, is Van Helsing himself. Correct me if I’m wrong, but VH wasn’t an original character from the book Dracula by Braham Stoker? I’ve read that book, and he was old, and eccentric, and definitely not some crappy Aragorn copy. Anyway.

Things that surprised me? Dracula’s plan to bring life to his er... sons, using Frankenstein’s er… energy. Or something. I hadn’t expected that. The Mr hyde thing at the beginning was just too cool (except when he throws VH out of the building, that scene is not very well done). And I loved the detail about that mirror-door that leaded to Dracula’s manor and tried to explain why he and the other vamps don’t have a reflection in the mirror. It amused me to no end.

/VH rant

Haven’t done much studying today, but at least I finished the Admin module for the Slythy homepage. I’m still testing it, but I think it works mostly fine. I can now cross that out of my list of ‘things-to-do-before-the-exams’, along with that major boring essay about HTTP protocol. I’ll have to get up early tomorrow to catch up what I haven’t done today, but at least I don’t feel guilty.

And need more sleep.
