Actually, I'm somewhat surprised a launch was even being considered ... I saw a day or two ago on the news video of the launch pad being hit by lightning - so they were gonna' check out all the electrical systems, which I imagine would take considerable time ?

I gathered they had already cleared most of the shuttle systems after the near lightning strike, before deciding to scrub due to Ernesto.

they were simultaneously prepping for a return to the VAB and a launch. They cleared everything post lightning stike except for the SRBs as of yesteday's 3 pm press briefing/news conference. they were going to re-eval after the mission mtg at 6 last night. depending on Ernesto and talks with the Russians, they may or may not launch in September. this window ends September 13 and next one opens Oct 20th, and a Soyuz mission is planned for mid september, which would interfere with Atlantis's time @ ISS.

Atlantis is piloted by a Drexel alum. That's my random trivia to add to your day.
