A few days ago, it looked as though Ernesto (the first hurricane of the season, though since downgraded to a tropical storm) would be heading across Cuba and the Gulf straight for Louisiana. As recently as yesterday, it looked more like a loop across western Cuba and a hit on Florida's gulf coast around Tampa.
Suddenly, it looks as though the storm will be tracking straight up the Florida peninsula, mostly on the east coast -- so the rescheduled launch tomorrow of Atlantis has been scrubbed so they can bring her back to the Vehicle Assembly Building. They could either commit to launching tomorrow or return the shuttle to the VAB; couldn't postpone the launch again, or the shuttle would be vulnerable to the storm.
Good luck to all my friends in Ernesto's path!
