Title: All You Can Do is Run (?)
Possibly part 2 of 3 or 4, maybe
Author: Traceuse-Passement
Spoilers: None
Rating: T
Pairing(s): Eventual Chuck/Nate
Disclaimer: I own nothing. If I owned Gossip Girl, the cast would be all guys...and it would basically be Queer as Folk. Also, this is my first Gossip Girl fic. I'm just starting to get into the TV series and its only because I'm a slash-fanatic since Chuck and Nate look so cute together. This is when the Gossip Girl fans are the "Ew, whats wrong with you?" and I'm like "Too bad". XD
Anyway, a little bit behind this story: Its based off Mirror's Edge. Mirror's Edge is a game for the Xbox 360 about Runners in a Government controlled city using the rooftops to get messages from Point A to Point B while the Government is trying to eradicate them. While doing this, they use a technique, if you could call it that, called Parkour. I'm introducing to Parkour to the series because it needs more flavor than drama. Of course, Nate isn't a runner; he's just introduced to Parkour by an old friend.
Summary: Nate couldn't remember the last time he felt so free. And now, things are different.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things are different now. Nate can feel it in his bones. It vibrates, rattling his insides. His adrenaline's always pumping, heart's always racing. Nate starts carrying running shoes with him...because he knows that all you can do is run.
Nate squeezes through the hallways, making sure to stay out of his friends' line of vision. He doesn't want to be seen today, especially what Gossip Girl has been posting about him. She has seen him with Maeve, moving from roof to roof. Surely enough, everyone has read it and everyone is whispering now. Rumors have started that he's slept with Maeve and he's cheating on Blair. His favorite so far has been that he's selling drugs and Maeve's teaching him how to get away from the cops faster. He chuckles at the rumors he picks up on.
The clicking echoes through Nate's head. Everyone's head is buried in their cell phones, looking for updates on Gossip Girls. He hears Chuck and Blair's names a few times and he snaps his pencil in half. Maeve had pretty much dropped his phone off his apartment building's roof the first day. He's been without it since and frankly, he likes it that way.
"Nate," A voice whispers.
Nate turns in his seat to meet Chuck's eyes.
"You're okay," Chuck whispers again and Nate only laughs. He's worried; Nate can tell.
"Of course," Nate whispers in reply and he just wants to kiss Chuck's worry away.
"Tonight, Nathaniel, we have to talk." Chuck's right back to business, face hard and expressionless.
"Your place. Midnight. And please, be alone." Nate turns around again, not looking at his face.
Nate knows its a bad idea but you can't say "no" to a Bass, especially Chuck. He doesn't speak to Chuck for the rest of the day and leaves quickly. Maeve's waiting and he smiles. She throws a gym bag at him and he laughs, taking out the running shoes from within. He slides off his dress shoes, throwing them down as he slides on the running shoes. They are much more comfortable. He drops his school bag, coat and scarf, all expensive, to the ground. He wasn't going to need them, even if it was freezing.
"Race you," Maeve says.
She doesn't have to say twice because he's already behind her and catching up.
Midnight comes around quickly and Nate's not happy. He's leaning on the pipe again, staring past his reflection, into the darkness of the Bass apartment. He sighs, pushing open the window. He steps in, making sure to be as quiet as possible. The lights were out and oddly quiet, except for the exceptional creaking. Nate stands straight, placing a hand on his hips. Where's Chuck?
Before he could turn, he hears breathing behind him and he has no choice but to react. Maeve has taught him to be paranoid; you survive much longer. To her, everyone is an enemy and she's in enemy territory. Nate guesses its the way she was raised and he doesn't question her. He believes her and trusts her.
The breather is pinned against the wall. Nate knows its Chuck; the scotch aparent on his breath. Nate could almost see him through the moonlight but it was dim. Nate slides his hand up Chuck's chest, stopping at his heart for a moment before continuing to his neck. It is beating as fast as his. Was it anxiety? Fear? Adrenaline? Lust?
"Calm down, Chuck," Nate whispers.
Chuck's breath slows but Nate can't help but to lose control, pushing Chuck's mouth onto his, into a bruising kiss. He pours everything into the kiss; his love, his devotion, his lust, his desire, his everything. Chuck's hands were now on his thin hips, pulling him close and holding him there. Nate's travel up his back and into Chuck' hair and Chuck can't help but groan into their kiss.
Nate takes them out a few seconds later, pushing off Chuck's suspenders.
Nate and Chuck are dressed completely opposite each other; Nate's in his sweat pants and a sleeveless shirt with his running shoes, while Chuck, on the other hand, has his blue pin stripe shirt on with dark dress pants.
Opposite ends of the spectrum.
Chuck's hands travel under his shirt and up his bare back, sending shivers down his spine. He loves the feeling just as much as being free. It's intoxicating.
The light clicks on and Nate's off him a second. Blair's standing near the light, staring at them. Has she been there the entire time? Nate looks back at Chuck and his eyes are pleading with him. Blair moves over to Chuck's side and Nate knows its over. Blair always gets what she wants.
"I said alone, Charles," Nate growls and walks towards the open window.
"Nate. Please, wait..."
Nate steps on the window sill, looking back at them. Blair's hands on Chuck's arm, holding him back slightly. Nate's eyes shift to her hand then to her eyes. They are saying, "Stay away, Nate.". Nate mentally agrees then looks back into Chuck's eyes.
"I'm leaving the Upper East Side," Nate says.
Nate turns his head towards the city. "When the sun is just starting to set, go up to the roof and look at the city. You'll see the Mirror's Edge."
Nate's eyes shift to Chuck and Blair, going back and forth between them. "How can one city be so clean, yet so dirty?"
Nate shakes his head, grabbing onto the pole. His eyes catch Chuck's one more time and he notices a single tear slide down Chuck's face. Nate wants to go back inside, wipe it from his face, tell him it's going to be okay but he can't. He knows they can't be together. Chuck is Blair's and there's no room for Nate. It's better if he disappears.
He mouths an "I'm sorry" then begins his ascent to the roof.
