Up in the sky... it's a bird, it's a plane...
OMG ITS A SPIKY HAIRED, BOTTLE BLOND METROSEXUAL POP STAR!
That's right: the boy band stars are back, and taking over the world in 2006!
It all started in 2005 when the Backstreet Boys returned w/ a new CD and tour (see my previous entry 4 a recap!)...
Then we learned that sometimes boy banders do have brains- when Nick Lachey finally ended things w/ Jessica the tuna connessoieur (its a french word so chances are if you used almost every vowel the spelling is close to correct!) OK, so Simpson technically divorced him, but he still gets half and doesn't have to listen to her whining or her creepy dad.
Now in 2006 there are some major changes taking place as other boys are participating reality shows...
-Drew Lachey (brother of Nick and fellow 98 degrees boy) is gonna be in the new season of Dancing With the Stars (won last year by PC alumn John O'Hurley after a rematch!)
-Ashley Parker Angel (yes thats a boy not a girl)- lead singer of the now defunct OTown- is no stranger to reality shows. He got his start on the ABC Friday night hit "Making the Band" (before P Daddy or whatever it is now took it over and made it ghetto on MTV). I won't deny it- I saw OTown on concert, and my whole family gathered every Friday night to watch the hijinx and melodrama of these whiny boys. OTown went on to sing such classic hits as Liquid Dreams and Every Six Seconds. (Meg and I frequently jam to both of these, especially Every Six Seconds!) Side note: the first song Chris and I slow danced to was an OTown song called "These Are the Days".
Well, the band eventually broke up, SHOCKER and after like 3 years, Ashley is now a poor struggling musician trying to regain (as if he ever had any) street cred after being "unfairly" labelled as a washed up boy bander. Oh, and to add to the meyhem, Ashley's girlfriend (luckily not still that whiny bitch from Making the Band) is having a baby. GASP (Actually, unwed fathering isn't unheard of for Boy bands, as both Jeff from 98degrees and Joey from NSYNC have done this). So what better way to reintroduce himself and build up his street cred than to have a new reality show on MTV. After all, look what MTV reality shows have done for other celebs- "The Osbournes" put both kids in rehab several times, and "Newlyweds" definitely helped sustain Nick and Jessica's marriage HA.
So, look forward to these developments and more in 2006. I, for one, am excited about other developments as well, such as the birth of TomKitten and part 1million of Trapped in the Closet!
