OMG! An incredibly long/short update... Nov. 8, 2008

Dear Readers (or viewers of art work),

After so long a while, I believe that this update will be long...

First of all, I've been working out on Adobe Photoshop (both on Studio pieces - explained later - and my own personal projects). I've also the liberty of borrowing one of my Art teacher's Wacom Tablets (I signed papers and did all of that fluff). So I've full reign until I've graduated this year (and then I've to buy my own... :( ).

Anyway, other news: I'm graduating this year (*coughhopefulycough*)!!!!

I also can't wait to get out of my family's abode, but I've kicked myself back a few feet. It seems that I haven't got the confidance to move out, but don't woe. I will get out of this problem (and I'm definitely going to an Art school!). I've also made up my mind to be an Illustrator (book illustrater, to be exact).

As for the illustrations that are my studio pieces (from the beginning of the year until now):

1 - Aladdin

- my Aladdin is a combination of Roman and Arabian culture. Can you believe that they both have Tunics? (Only that the Arabian tunic has adornments and the Roman one is extremely baggy)

2 - Mother and Child
- a large piece (I haven't measured it yet - and if I have, I have forgotten, but it's large [believe me, it's HUGE]) made with wire. The being - once again one of my linear people - is twisted in an array of colors (all of them meaning the happiness and love of a Mother over her child). The weird thing is that the mother and the child are ONE. The Wired piece - if unglued from its cardboard (and white papered) background, can be pulled out into a large loop. However, if you look at the way that I've put it down, it is a Mother holding her child protectively and looking down at him (or her) in her embrase.

So far, people have told me, "Why can't the Mother be a Father?"
Believe me, often enough I only reply, "It's explainable - I mean, what do you see more in art? A Father and a baby? or a Mother and her child?"

Obviously, a Mother and her baby/child.

3 - Ixta y Popo (or Ixtaciuatl and Popocatepetl)
- I've mixed these two people of legend with a fairy tale that almost everyone has heard about: Sleeping Beauty.
You see, Ixta and Popo (both part of a Mexican Legend of two Volcanoes - or Mountains, I think it's up to the viewer's perspective) were lovers. They loved each other so much that they wanted to marry. Ixta, however, was the daughter of a powerful Chief; and Popo went to that powerful Chief to ask for Ixta's hand in marriage. The Chief said that he could, but only when he, Popo (a great warrior) defeated the rival tribe that their tribe was at war with (of course, this is an Aztec legend). And Popo went.
- Months (or days) later, he didn't come, and one of his rival suitors (or rather, one of Ixta's suitors) went up to the Chief, telling him that Popocateptl had failed and died. Ixta heard of what he had said, and instantly (believing it and all) died of grief, for she would not be with her lover.
- A few days later, Popocateptl returned victorious. He had won the battle (and probably brought back loads of captive prisoners of the rival tribe - that's what Aztec warriors used to do). But he learned of Ixta's untimely death (of grief, obviously) and took her up to the Mountains (or the Mountain region of Mexico), to look after her.

What I think is that he's hoping that she'll wake up, but it's understandable.

Anyway, Ixta and Popo were then turned (by the gods) into [Sleeping, I think] Volcanoes (or Mountains) where lush clouds of dust come up every now and then. But, no one will ever forget their story of love and suffering...

Regardless, in Sleeping Beauty the Princess wakes up once her Prince rescues her from her long sleep. However, in Ixta and Popo's Legend, the Princess (or Chief's daughter) has no hopes of waking up ever again.

4 - Dreams; Creativity vs. World; Reality
- Can't say anything now - it's still in progress. ^_^ But I can say that I'm painting once more and it's very large. :D
And that's about it, folks,

~Meli♥
