a bad day at the office

location, location, location.

businesses thrive in the right location. if you're in the "business" of plying a trade to get donations from the common (wo)man on the street, the most important thing is location.

and apparently, you can't go far wrong at the junction between paragon and ngee ann city.

rain or shine, there will always be a disabled person plying their trade there. tissues, music or their voice over a minus one track.

each a little entity on it's own, trying it's hardest to get the (wo)man's on the street altruistic dollar.

or so i thought.

cos while on a run to get my bi-weekly soup spoon fix, i saw the lady with the back almost bent over who sells three packets of tissue paper for a dollar(?) hobble over to the bloke on the wheelchair with the keyboards, she talks to him for a bit and then drops a five dollar note into his donation bin.

maybe he was having a bad day at the office, and she was having a good one. maybe it doesn't really matter who you donate or buy from anyway, because later when their shift is done, they meet up somewhere and split the proceeds.

maybe, maybe not.

i looked down at what i was holding in my hands. i felt a bit bad that i just spent ten dollars on my lunch.

... for a while anyway.
