It's getting close to the end. Soon we'll have the last issue in our hands, and we'll know who survived and who didn't, and in what condition. I have my own opinions on who's likely to be a casualty of "The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny", but I thought it'd be fun to see what the rest of the community has to say about the ending.

Aside from the fact that I'm a Havoc fangirl? XD
Actually there are a couple of things that make me think it's a possibility -- although they could just as easily be red herrings...
1 -- Dr Marco learning Xingian Alchemy (I mentioned earlier).
2 -- It's been mentioned over and over again that this alchemy is primarily used for healing.
3 -- Roy's research while they were sill in the hospital, and talking to Dr Knox.
4 -- Dr Knox was also in Ishbal, experimenting on people. He might have a few tricks up his sleeves.
None of this is compelling enough to go beyond reasonable doubt, but the idea of Havoc walking again isn't completely out of the realm of possibility, either. If it happens it wouldn't be a deus ex.
I do NOT think Arakawa will kill Ed. I think that is too dark for this series, honestly.
You make a very good point. No matter how dark and intense things have gotten in this series, there has always been that sense of hope that ran all the way through it.

With the aforementioned alchemy it IS a possibility that they could fix/improve Havoc. EVEN with a fixed spinal cord he will have a lot of PT and may NEVER be the same again. His gait/strength/muscle mass and bone mass are likely compromised already. (That said, even SOME return of function would be awesome and an improvement for him.)
I'm not even thinking it's a cop out with the alchemy. They'll still have to "move heaven and earth" to fix him. If they did it "soap opera style" I'd be super pissed. I suppose that is the activist and friend in me. I know guys in similar situations to Havoc and I am pissed on their behalf when things aren't portrayed correctly.
I'm not wagering on who dies yet... I have some thoughts.

Depending on the extent of the damage loss of sensation/twilight sensation would begin around the navel. It's entirely possible that he'd have some sensation all the way to the hip flexors. (Or lower if you make the injury incomplete. He would still be considerably compromised and sensation in his legs would be limited to non-existent. (e.g. pressure but not pain or hot or cold in the thighs with little to nothing from the knees down.)

Good point about the GI bleed and internal injuries from the stab too - I was thinking the same thing.
On a side note, I've been having so much fun with steampunk car modifications. I imagined Rush Valley would have quite the side industry in steampunky assistive technology ... which would all cost a bomb.
And congratulations on making the archive! That's so cool, and from what I can see very well-deserved.

Quirk--In the backstory I invented for Havoc before we knew the details of his history, I had him as the third of ten farm kids, and his next-younger brother had gone deaf after a dangerous illness at six--and he and Jean drew up making up extra finger signs to torment the rest of their siblings.

Please don't be intimidated! I want more people to write Havoc!!! As you can tell from my early chapters I've been working on my technique and the story was just THERE and needed telling. I cringe at my earlier chapters. The dialog though good was formatted in such a stilted way. Eep! (The comma abuse was through the roof.)
