Lifeish stuff

After feeling kind of down on myself for a few days for not being where I
thought I should be in life, I have realized all is not as it seems.
After seeing co-workers buying houses, cars, nice clothing etc, I now
realize I am better off than they are.

They have thousands and thousands of dollars in debt, including school
loans, car loans, credit debt, and home loans on worthless homes.  In
comparison, I realized I am pretty well off. I don’t have a car payment
(own my car), no upside down mortgage (fairly reasonable rent) no
outrageous school debt (Junior college with scholarships).  My debt to
income ratio puts me in the positive overall, as opposed to digging
myself out for 30-50 years. Granted I do plan on obtaining a new car and
a home at some point in time, but seeing my co-workers bitch about
money in the way they do and worry about every little thing makes me
realize that it’s best to wait until I’m financially prepared, rather
than jump at the first chance.

It may be a grim way to look at this, but If I were to drop dead right
now, my entire debt could be wiped out by selling my 13 year old car for
a few hundred bucks. The more I think about the overall situation, the
better I feel.

In other words I may not live in a mansion or drive a brand new sports
car, but I live well within my means, and would say for the most part I
am pretty stable. And that is an amazing feeling.
