I feel like only posting a gushing Doctor Who post right now, and maybe I'll post my odd crossover tomorrow after I've seriously edited it.
So, I snuck onto YouTube and watched the newest Doctor Who episode, Stolen Earth, yesterday about two or so hours after it aired in Great Britain. May I say, that episode had me salivating the entire time. And its from various points of view!! The Doctor and Donna, Rose Tyler, the Nobles, Martha Jones and UNIT, Jack Harkness and Torchwood, Sarah Jane and Luke, a random guy on the street, Harriet Jones, Davros and the Daleks...Dalek Kon scares me. He's like batshit insane. But I suppose only the batshit insane could think up a plan such as stealing 27 different planets and using the Medusa Cascade to hide them.
So, I loved the parts with Torchwood, like when the earthquake starts and the first thing Jack does is check up on Ianto. Awwww. And then Ianto is watching the television, which is absolutely hilarious, especially when Jack tells him that "this is not the time or the place" and their first contact with Harriet Jones. I don't know much about UNIT, but I think they were extremely lucky that the Indigo Project didn't go kaput on Martha. I don't know much about the Sarah Jane Adventures either, but none of those characters appeared too often. I love the Donna interactions on the Shadow Proclamation-- "There's something on your back" and "I'm sorry for your loss...No, for the loss that is yet to come." Gah!!! But the Doctor was brilliant, as always, especially with the TARDIS key trick. Rose Tyler kicked some serious ass, and I felt so bad for her when she wasn't included in the "outer space Facebook." I just love Wilf to absolute pieces though--he had a pretty damn good idea with the paint gun; too bad it didn't work. And Harriet Jones...wow. I think she totally redeemed herself in this episode.
I love the idea of the subspace network, even though the idea is a little overdone (Archangel network, anyone?) but I think there was something odd going on that Rose wasn't included. After all, how the hell did she know that Martha was at home, when just minutes before she'd been in New York? But Jack was flirting with Sarah Jane, which was especially funny, and Donna pointing at the TARDIS screen at Jack made me giggle. But I loved the cell phone signal thing, with everyone and Rose and the Nobles trying to dial the Doctor.
The reunion!! Oh gosh, the reunion. I almost cried. I had a definite "NO! DAMMIT! I knew that would happen!" moment when the Dalek appeared. I was sitting there kinda hoping Jack would do his kiss of life thing. The cliffhangers were all absolutely evil, and there was no next time trailer! I mean, Sarah Jane is in her car facing down Daleks, the Doctor is regenerating, Torchwood is under attack by the Daleks...Gah!!
Now, for the nitpicking. Every year, EVERY YEAR, its Daleks. Well, except for last year, but still. Daleks, Daleks, Daleks. Enough with the Daleks, we get it! But I still think Rose Tyler should bust out her Bad Wolfishness and wipe them from time again.
And, why, exactly, is Wilf carrying around a paintgun? Neither he, nor Donna seem like the paintball type, to be honest. But he has pretty good aim with it though.
When Jack was leaving the hub (NOOOO!) I was rather irritated because last season it was shown that he could take people with him with his Vortex Manipulator, so why did he leave Ianto and Gwen behind when he knew the Daleks were so close?! Why didn't he take them with him?!?!?! And then he arrives to kill a Dalek (two seconds too late), and he doesn't even blink when he sees Rose! I understand that there's a lot of stuff going on, and he's probably preoccupied, but does he even seem surprised? No!!! I hope Jack and Rose have a damn good reunion next episode. And Rose doesn't even twitch either! Raargh.
Doctor, your Vortex Manipulator manipulating skills are pathetic. It seriously takes Jack one second to fix your meddling, which is rather depressing.
One last parting snark: Sarah Jane, highly intelligent supercomputers are neither adequate bodyguards nor babysitters. He's better off with the tin dog, if you ask me.
