u know its funny how u grow up your whole life having your parents tell you, "you can go to any school you want", "you can be whatever you wanna be" and "money is no object" and then senior year comes and all of a sudden its a different story. I hate money. I hate arguing with my mom about it. Why does it have to rule my life so incessantly? ( Read more... )

Unfortunately, money rules the lives of most college students I know. Your parents may not have thousands of dollars available to send you to any college you want, but the fact that they can send you to "A" college in the first place is an accomplishment. I know a lot of people who have to pay their own way through school. And if your parents help pay for your sister's car, chances are they'll help pay for one for you, too. It may be tough for you to hear your parents having financial trouble, but its more common than you may think. I would like to think if your parents ask for help for relatives, thats one of the many things relatives are there for, through good times and bad. Of course, they are not to be taken advantage of, but sometimes you do what you have to do. Yeah, your dad isn't making a high salary, but at least he IS working and making an effort to give you what you need.

When your mom tells you "you can go to any school you want" or "money is not object" she probably isn't just saying that-it means she will make certain sacrifices for you so you can be happy. It isn't just a load of bullshit she says for the hell of it. Just trying to see things from her point of view.

Overall, you have plenty of friends and family willing to help you through this time and to help figure out the next stage in your life. Unfortunately, money HAS to matter at least a little in your situation...it matters in any family, not just yours. When you have an entire household to run and bills to pay, its just natural. Is it fair? Of course not. Obviously money actually doesn't matter all that much with your family-thats why other family members are willing to help and your parents are trying their best to give you what you want and trying to save where they can. Maybe you'll understand more once you're out on your own and have to make a living yourself. Overall, to them you are their son and the only thing they want is to make you happy, even if they have to do without.

Hope this helped at least a little and gave you another perspective on things.
