Day: The Twentieth

Jun 20, 2007 14:29

Hmm. So today is another full day. I got to school at 7 am, did some last minute stuff on my project and started an outline on my paper that's due tomorrow, had class at 11 and gave my presentation, got out at 2 and now am waiting for my dad to come pick me up so I can be at work at 4. Woo.

So the other day I was thinking as I was sitting in traffic, how much better it would be if cars were programmable and the whole road system was computerized, and you could enter in your destination, and your car would take you there itself. If all cars were like that too, so that everyone is driven by their car, like a personalized mass transport system. If it were all programable then there would never be traffic. The computer would figure out the most efficient way for each car to get somewhere in a fair matter. No one could fly off on the shoulder, no one could cut in front of you, etc. On top of that, you could never get a ticket, since you'd never break any laws, the computers would make sure of that.

Like that, only not hard to use and not just for parking. These guys kind of suck at using the system, but it's funny how annoyed they are. I've seen other reports where it actually works, and it works well. Maybe parallel parking is easier than reverse parking? Oh well.

I mean, really, it's such a good idea. But then, I thought about it more. If everything were programmable, you could never go somewhere without someone being able to find out about it. It'd probably be official government record. Clandestine meetings between people would not work. Try to go somewhere without your parents or significant other knowing wouldn't be feasible. Unless you go by foot. Plus the government would have to map every single road and side road and little alley and parking lot and parking space and driveway in order to really be effective. Also, you could never get a ticket. Now I know you're thinking, wait that was a plus, wasn't it? But if you think about it, tickets are where police departments get a good sum of their funding. Which means they'd have lack of funds which would be bad. Plus also, driving is kind of fun. I like being able to go 80 down the highway and passing a million cars. So I guess we'll just have to invent the transporter first and use driving for leisure activity or something. Because seriously, I hate traffic.

Song of the Day: Cake - Never There I was torn on what Cake song I wanted. But I like singing this one at the top of my lungs in the car, so that's what you get.

Random fact of the Day: If the population of China walked past you in single file, the line would never end because of the rate of reproduction. Also, if you say someone is 1 in a million, you're saying there are 1,317 of them in China alone.

P.S. Sorry for being so cranky yesterday. I'm better now, promise.
