While there were a host of factors involved in me moving to Calgary, a huge one for us was the safety and environment for the kids. I got seriously tired of walking them to the park and tripping over sniffers on the way, and sifting through sand to find needles before he could play.

The presence of the round could be related to the military training manouvers performed last autumn.

I'm surprised that the Police didn't take any interest in it though. It kind of makes one wonder it they get this kind of call often.

Absolutely correct. Even in the 80's our pistols all fired the 9mm round. And that hasn't changed.
During the exercises that Adam mentioned, the rounds would have been blanks. This definitely was not a blank round.
Around a year ago, someone did fire 4 shots into a house nearby (drive by) and may have tossed the remaining rounds out of the vehicle just afterwards.

And you can bet that if the bullet was found in Charleswood or Tuxedo, the police would be ALL over it.
