Leo found something interesting yesterday and wanted to show it to me. It was a short piece of metal. With a lead stopper at one end. And the words "Federal .357 Magnum" at the other.
Yep, a live round right on the ground near our house.
It's been in the ground, I'd estimate, at least a month, given the state of the casing and the corrosion of the lead bullet.
When I called the police they seemed bored with the whole thing. "Just dispose of it" she said. Um? Where? I have no way to dispose of a bullet other than tossing it in the river. And I won't do that. So I put it in an envelope and I'll be dropping it off at a police station on my way to the store today.
I sat Leo down and showed him different bullets this morning including shotgun shells so that he'd know what to look for.
Shit, when I was his age the worst I'd have to worry about was getting a BB in the ass from my brother. Not picking up live rounds.
